In John chapter 3, Nicodemus is talking to Jesus and is told that he must be "born again"--not of his mother, but of the Spirit. Being "born again" is when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and acknowledge that you are a sinner by nature and need to be saved. When you do this you are "reborn" spiritually--you come alive to God in the living relationship with his Son Jesus. "Born again" and "saved" are often used interchangeably in conversation. It means that you consciously and deliberately try to live the Christian life "as if it were true"--because it is. This means walking the talk to the best of your ability, and following the teachings of Jesus as set out in the New Testament.

As Jesus talked with Nicodemus, He said "...Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again...." (John 3:3-7).
The phrase "born again" literally means "born from above." Nicodemus had a real need. He needed a change of his heart--a spiritual transformation. New birth, being born again, is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the person who believes (2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:3; 1 John 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1-4, 18). John 1:12,13 indicates that "born again" also carries the idea "to become children of God" through trust in the name of Jesus Christ.

Being Born Again means accepting that Jesus was who He said He was and that there is no other route to Heaven except through Him.
It's accepting that you're a sinner, always were and always will be and that there is no way you could get into Heaven but by saying that you believe that belief in Christ can cleans you of your sins, you will no longer be judged but have had your name written in what we call The Lamb's Book of Life.

"Born Again" comes from a story in the New Testament.
A man named Nicodemus came to Jesus and asked what he must do to go to heaven. Jesus said he must be born again. The man asked how can a man re-enter a woman's womb and be born again? Jesus told him that 'what is born of water (think: when a woman's' 'water' breaks) is born of flesh . . . what is born of the Spirit is Spirit.
Being "saved" is being "born again".

We live by the desires of the flesh. By being born again it means to live by the desires of the Spirit, rejecting what is of the world. No one has ever been born again in this board, in spite of what they have been told by their leaders.

A Christian accepts Jesus as his saviour when he is adult and is baptised in the holy spirit and in water. Thus he is born again in Christ.
Some, but not all christians speak in tongues when they receive the holy spirit.

It means that the Holy Spirit of God has taken up permanent residence in a believer's "heart", that he or she has been regenerated spiritually by God and been baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

It means what it says- spiritually, of course. Before becoming a Christian, a person is either nonchalant about doing evil things, or is concerned, but finds him- or herself unable to put things right. After becoming a Christian, the same person not only hates doing wrong, but is able to overcome the tendency to do wrong- not every time, but does things the right way more and more.

I can t believe all the comments i just read full of fear and misinterpretations. People are not sinners or evil. Jesus never saw humanity in this way. He also never wanted humans to to take his teachings so literal. He wants you to open your mind and find the kingdom of heaven inside yourselves meaning your own happiness. The 1 Corinthians 12;13 quote eludes to we are all the same and from same source. No one needs to be " born again " or " saved. "
