The same reason we evolved the ability to swat... self defense. However, the community of bees is largely 'for the good of the group'... so a bee sting is a sacrificial offering to protect the colony.

I don't think in ALL cases, but I believe that's an accurate generalization.

Wasps developed the ability to sting as a defense mechanism and wasps don't die after stinging, bees dies after stinging. Wasps get to sting you over and over again.

They didn't have to. Evolution is not a directed process. It did turn out to be an effective strategy. Sorry.
