I am majoring in elementary ed. I am curious to know: how transferable is this degree? What other job opportunities does anyone know of in which a BS in elementary ed can be utilized? I am really interested in finding out more about careers in which I'd travel.

Since you asked about other ideas; aside from elementary education; what about GED tutoring or just tutoring. Depending on what exactly you prefer for a career...there are alot of careers especially when you consider just about anything that requires an associates degree and so forth.

I'm not exactly sure of all the different job titles (some are called Match Specialists), but people who work at agencies such as Big Brothers Big Sisters deal with children. They match kids ages 6-14 with mentors. So they don't have to be around children all the time (only when they interview kids for the program, plan events for them, etc.) Other agencies to check out might include Boys and Girls Club, Junior Achievement, etc.

Some of the so-called third world countries are looking for people to work in their schools. You also might try some of the cruise lines that specialize in family vacations, as they might provide services for working with children.
