Depend what you want to do with it. WAV is the uncompressed music, so soundquality is best with it, but it takes lots of space.

If you like to listen to music, i suggest MP3. It is not losless codec, so the sound quality goes down a bit when you convert wav to mp3, but it is the most common format and takes about 1/10 space compared to wav, depending on quality. There are several other compressed formats, some have better sound quality than mp3, but they do not usually work with dvd players, mp3 players, etc.

It all depends on how you want the end results to become. MP3's are great as long as you have a MP3 Player, if you just want an audio disk to play in a plain ole CD Player them you need to burn in WAV/CDA. WMA is windows compression format and tends to lack lustre, MP4 is generally a video format

the best would be an analog format - any form of digitizing by definition means you will permanently loose an infinite amount of data.

Save one song in each of the formats, in many bit rates, and listen to it.

Then, decide for yourself.
