Im not being rude or anything I just want to know why catholics pray to Mary. Can you at least tell me any scriptures in the bible that really tell us that we should offer our prayers to Mary coz from what I have read so far the bible tells us to beleive in GOD in Jesus and Jesus sais no one can go to the father except through me and it doesn't say or mention Mary anywhere as far as prayer and faith are concerned. Can you explain this to me please and like I said Im not being rude i genuinely want to know so please don't answer rudely, if you don't know or don't have anything sensibly to say please move on to other questions thank you

I dont know of any script stating Mary should be worshipped, but she is a Saint and my grandmother tells me it is easier for her to address a women in here prayers sometimes. I'm of the belief that any prayer made to a Saint will also be heard by God and he(she/unisex) does not see this as worship of a false idol. Sorry I cant tell you a specific reason to pray to Mary or not, prayer is a personal thing some people prefer speaking to a women. I pray to God when I do.

Thanks for not asking your question rudely like some people tend to do here. We Catholics do not worship Mary. We pray to he, intercede to her. It's like asking a friend to pray for you. The same applies to the saints. Mary is the Mother of God and the Mother of us all. Because she is the Mother of God, she would have to sinless, right? Does it make more sense now? Hope this answer helps!

The Roman Catholic stance on this is that we are not worshipping Mary in her own right, but as God chose her to be the mother of Christ we appeal to her to speak to Jesus on our behalf. Similarly the prayers to the Saints are requests for them to intercede for us. Hope this helps.

+ Saints +

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints is communication, not worship.

+ The Blessed Virgin Mary +

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If no, why?

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

+ With love in Christ.

i'm sorry if i offend anyone, but here goes a non-catholic take on this-praying to anyone except God is, at best, a complete and utter waste of time, and at worst, blasphemy

A catholic service isn't as (for a lack of a better word) paganistic as people seem to make out here... the service is very similar to a protestant service believe it or not.

And really, what difference does it make!?

We ask Mary to intercede for us like she did at the wedding in Cana (John 2:3-11), and we ask her to pray to God for us, because the Bible tells us to "pray for one another" (James 5:16).
