I'd like to spend no more than $600 if possible. The main function of the scanner would be to archive family photos (prints) and documents on rare occasions. Slides are not a concern for the time being as I understand you're better off with a scanner devoted to that purpose. Thanks!

$600 seems 10 times too much unless you are into large high quality pictures. I use an Epson Perfection 3490 Photo page scanner that also has options to scan 35mm negatives and slides. Unlike an earlier scanner, it can scan a few photos at the same time into separate images. It was also quite amazing in correcting tinted photos. In most cases, for the 4000+ photos I scanned, I used the negative stips as many photos were in the wrong envelope.

I have a Canon Muldpass MP370 and it prints real
good pictures it is the best that i every had
and i have had 5 or 6 . And it don't cost to much
you are looking at about 100.00 dollars
And you can buy ink cheep for it .

This is a scanner & printer & it is grate

Most brand name scanners will do what you want. The trick is to find one with "easy to use" software.

Canon gets my vote on that. I have a CanoScan LiDe 20 that is a joy to use.
