no, it was their own choice to bring them into the world, why should someone else have to pay from their choices? they should have thought about financial implictions etc beforehand!

If the fathers of children agree to take full responsibility of the mother and kids, which is how it should be anyway, then mothers should stay at home and look after the kids. They may even engage in some home business like web designing and things like that but there shouldn't even be the question of whether they should be paid for it or not. Who brought them into the world?
men are restless and can't adequately take care of kids. It's the natural job of women which they should do happily without appeal or coercionand the men too should not hesitate, they shouldn't be appealed to to take COMPLETE responsibilty of such wonderful mothers and their kids.
My opinion though.

I am a SAHM and feel that there are already some parents that are being paid to stay home and those parents are living off the system.
I stay at home because I can afford to, after having my second child it was a better financial decision for me not to return to work because the amount of money we would spend on a babysitter, transportation and lunch wouldn't amount to much take home pay at the end of the week.
I think a seperate deduction out of our pay checks that is completely optional to help pay out during pregnancy, maternity or paternity leave is a better idea.

I used to think so when I was a stay at home mom..
But drew comport in knowing my children were well taken care of by me and that by my staying home, I made room for another man to support his family.. ( I worked in car body repair)
On those days I felt my job was thankless, my Mom would come over and be my friend.. Back 20 years ago, the women in the family used to help a new mom cope.. My mother had seven children!!..

Paid by who? Hey, life is not a free ride and since you had these kids it is your responsibility. It's a whole lot easier if two parents contribute, though, and we need to pursue this more vigorously. Even welfare is not paying people to stay home anymore. Work-fare is the word of the day. Get real.

No no one should being paying for a parent to be a stay at home parent. I used to work my son was in day care and I quit my job and made the choice to stay home. It was tough money wise but I started my home business, don't make a ton of money but enough for the extra's. It was the best choice I've ever made. But tax payers don't need to pay me for that choice. Tax payers are already paying for to much. Its a parents job to support the child they bring into the world not the goverments.

Some countries, the government pays for the mother to stay home with their child for a year, and pays for the father to stay home for 30 days. I happened to like that idea a lot as the first year of the child's life is very important.
Unfortunately in the USA, this isn't the way it goes.

I get payed with love! The love my family gives me is all the pay I need.
Seriously though, Stay at home parents choose to be stay at home parents so who do you think should pay them? Not our tax dollars.

No one else should be forced to pay for someone else's mistakes. If a person chooses to have children, then that's a life choice and no one should have to pay to raise those babies. It's not as if humans are an endangered species. There are 6.5 billion humans on this planet. Surely we don't need any more. And to think women keep making babies And expect handouts. If you can't afford them don't have 'em.

In Australia we are in a way. We have what is called family allowance. The more your family earns the less you get of it but up until a cetain amount of earning (if your a stay home mum it is the husbands earnings)everyone gets some. Also we are incouraged to have babies due to the underpopulation. I think it is upto about $4000 per baby
