Why is it important and can you have one in a relationship, lacking in the next and still lead a productive long term relationship? While talking to a friend yesterday who stated that the sex was gone in a relationship and they felt no need to stay it got me to thinking on how important it truly is to have sex AND/OR intimacy and why is it so important... .what is its significance, can it end a relationship when its lacking. Being single and all I am quite curious to see the responses. So let me hear your views on this..

intimacy may start with sex and sex may begin with intimacy. however, sex is just sex and it is empty without intimacy. intimacy involves feelings. one can have sex with different partners but having sex with someone you're intimate with would be totally different. it goes together and is essential in a relationship.

If you are having sex without the intimacy then you are truly missing out on the real deal. it is like going to work at a place that you don't even really like working at. don't get me wrong SEX is an important part of a relationship but there are ways to spice that up. maybe their Sex life has gone to Hell because they have given up on the relationship in the first place. just like a garden you must work with it and care for it to grow, like with any relationship. Equal parts of Sex & Intimacy thats what ROCKS MY BOAT!!!!!!

For me if there is no intimacy or emotional connection then sex is useless. Where there is intimacy there is great sex and without I would feel like I am going to burst if I don't find away to connect emotionally with my partner and that has the potential to end any relationship.

thats such a good question. i just imagined being without one or the other and couldn't decide. after much debate i think intimacy is more important because you can work on the sex part. and the best sex is with true intimacy and go hand in hand in that sense.

If the intimacy and honesty are there so will the sex. Sex isn't just the act of penetration. Sex is also kissing, holding hands, and sometimes sex is just the look you give each other from across the room.

it is always nice to have both, however if your partner could no longer have sex, you could still sustain the relationship with intimacy. On the other hand, if your partner could no longer share intimacy with you, I seriously doubt that the relationship could survive on just sex.

Both are important. First, sex is a way of expressing one's love for a person. And how can you have great sex if you're not intimate? Yeah, people do no strings attachjed sex, but it feels way greater if you feel something special for the person you're sleeping with.
