Islam. Not in the form you see it today, but the concept of 'submission to God' dates back to Adam to and Eve.

Hinduism is the oldest documented religion that is still in practice today. The keywords are "documented" and "still in practice today". Although there may have been other older religions, often times they were practiced in oral societies or they do not have an unbroken history of practice. Also, Hinduism does not have a central leader and contains many different beliefs and practices.

"... The Sanskrit word ric, which for euphonic reasons is changed to rig, means literally "praise". ... The Sanskrit word veda means literally "knowledge" or "wisdom". ... The Rig-Veda is the oldest book in the Sanskrit language, indeed in any Indo-European language. More than that, if we are correct, it is the oldest book in the world ... The fact that the Rig-Veda mentions a stellar configuration that corresponds to a date from 6000 B.C. to 7000 B.C. - the astronomical Ashvini era ..."

That's a TOUGH question! I would imagine some kind of Sun worship. In times immemorial, every living creature depended on the Sun in every aspect of life. We still do, of course, but have artificial means and other diversions.

I hope my answer brings up many other points for discussion!

it would be somewhere in iraq, lots of religions try to claim it but honestly look at where civilization started, and dont think islam cause that happen in the last 1500 years. but i think its ancestor worship, which began when humans evolved enough to start morning the dead. i know florida indians started building burial mounds around 6,000 b.c. but i dont know about elsewhere.

i like the sun worshipping idea, but that was not until we started farming, much later. before we buried our dead i doubt we were smart enough to think of religion. animalism makes since, but like i said i do not believe we had the intellect to grasp religion until after we started burying our dead.

1. Animism (Worshipping of celestial objects, animals, plants considering them having souls).

2. Polytheism (Worshipping different types of gods categorized by nature, astronomy, water, animals, etc.)

3. Monotheism (Worshipping of one single deity, assumed to have created everything)

(Not to mention that's what we call, BullSh!t)
