I get up at 5:30 walk for an hour to get to work, walk for half an hour during my lunch break and in the evening I am often travelling, to night Bristol last Reading, and sat plymouth. I do walk as much as possible instead of driving, because I can't.

I have the same problem. I've been basically sitting in front of a pc for the past 15 years and I went from a size 12 to a size 16. Admittedly I have had 2 children in this time which didn't help much.
Anyway, about 6 weeks ago I started the GL diet and I've lost over a stone and I'm a size 14.
Hopefully in another 6 weeks I'll be a size 12 again.

Don't snack on rubbish, eat fruit for snacks.

Get some kind of exercise. I go to tai chi and yoga, which I can also do at home. I know it doesn't leave me out of breath, but my shape is changing! If you can get some aerobic exercise it would help too. Walk everywhere. Go for a walk at lunchtime if you can get out.

Hope this helps!

sparkpeople.com is helpful, when i started my first office job last year, i went to size 16 (normally 12) i joined a gym a few months back, im down to a 14 at the moment, i would suggest, make time to go gym, walk to work instead of getting the tube or bus, walk up stairs dont ride the escalators, doing little things like that mount up.

I find the best machine to lose weight is a Crosstrainer, i was using this in the gym, it make me sweat in 5 minutes, So i bought one on ebay and go on that every night (even when i have been gym the same day) for 20-30 minutes (depending how energetic i feel) these crosstrainers are really good, have a look on ebay.

I completely understand as this sort of happened to me. I was a student, then i got retail work and was on my feet all day and went to gym in my lunch brake or after work. Now, i work in an office and im sitting all day. But i still got to gym in my lunch(im lucky), but i put weight on too. And soon, im getting a job in london so i will be commuting a lot so i wont have time either and im fearing when ill be able to fit the gym into my schedule as i prefer to go to classess :(
I think the problem therefore lies in the eating. Thsi is what i do-
Have a medium sized bowl of special k in morning which keeps me going until lunch. Sometimes i have a 'pink lady' apple at 11( if you eat little and often this keeps your meatabolism going and working at peak so you burn more calories) plus you wont be hungry by lunch and you wont reach for something bad. Pink lady apples are realy sweet.

-Luch will be a brown roll with either chicken salad or egg salad without mayo (protein keeps you full and builds muscle- and the more muscle you have the quicker your metabolism- even at rest! so you will look more toned in the long run)

-If you want have a snack at 4 like an apple or a bannana

Evening meal- chicken stir fry, or baked potatoe with cottage cheese and ham, salad
If you want optimal weight loss i say dont have carbs in the evening meaning no bread, pasta, potatoes or rice. Just chicken with lots of veg or lots of salad. If you still feel hungry then have some fruit. Oh and drink lots of water to keep you hydrated.good luck :)

Just do Weight Watchers. It's easy to follow and proven to work. If you don't want to go to meetings, join Weight Watchers by post. If you don't want to pay that much, you can get all the start up information cheaper from ebay. The magazine also has some great recipes and tips in it.

Same thing happened to me when I started office job, but I now do exercise DVDs most days, either before or after work. Usually short of time, so just do an half hour one which is better than nothing.

I'm gonna start by saying that there is no point trying to lose weight if its for someone else benefit (you say you have a point to make to someone at your own wedding).

Secondly, if you are serious about losing weight, you will make the time to exercise believe me. Even if its on an exercise bike in front of the telly for 30 minutes on an evening (thats what I do), and I also try and get to the gym twice a week during my lunch break. I take fruit in to work to snack on, and since I've started seeing the difference in my weight loss, I've found teh willpower to say no to those friday mornings when everyone has a bacon sandwich from the cafe up the road, or when its someones birthday and they bring doughnuts in. Sitting at a desk all day is not an excuse to get flabby - I've used it myself but I know its not true, its the amount of food I eat that does it.

You're in exactly the same place I am at the moment. I've gone from quite an active job to a desk-based job. I try to stay as active as I can (and still do my job!).

I try as much as I can to walk to see people rather than phoning, don't pile things like photocopying up to do as bulk - those extra steps can add up. Go out for a walk at luchtimes and if you can, walk to work, or if not park a little further away or get off the bus a stop earlier.

All these little things will add up.

Also keep a record of everything you eat whilst at your desk, if will most probably stop you snacking too much on the wrong things!!

Good luck

I know what you mean - its not good working in an office!
Try weight watchers if you want a diet - its nice and easy to use! Or just try eating healthily at work! I try to keep fruit and healthy snacks in my draw for when i get so bored i need to eat something! And try the obvious bits ike taking stairs instead of a lift, or just go for a walk in your lunch break - een if its windowshopping! its all excercise!! Good luck!!!

Ah the curse of office work!

Hate to say it but you're stuffed. It happens to all of us. Unless you're really going to get up at 04:00 and work with a personal trainer (!) you'll have to accept some weight gain is the natural consequence of office work and long commutes.

I'm so sorry!

you will need to find some time to exercise. im sure you can find one hour a day to do some walking or running. also try to increase your daily activity. take stairs instead of lifts. park a bit further from work and walk the rest. it all helps.

the best way to exercise for busy people is to buy a treadmill or cardio machine and ride on it 20 to 40 minutes per day and it should be able to help you lose weight.
