Her mom died suddenly of a heartattack. She is only 22 and doesn't have any family except for her 3 kids. I've told her I'm here whenever she needs to talk or cry but I want to do more for her. She lives in Virginia and I live in Nebraska and I have school. I told her I'd ditch school for a while but she doesn't want me to. It breaks my heart everytime I hear her cry and I just want to be there to hold her. Any advice on what else I can do??

Send her some flowers and a sympathy card, keep assuring her that you love her and are always going to be there for her. Or maybe you should convince her that you really need to be with her at this time and go see her.

Since she is there without other family, you might want to help her to move closer to you, so that she will not feel so alone. If she can't move to Nebraska, try to get a couple of days off to fly over and comfort her. I am sure that she realizes that school is very important, but a couple of days would do wonders I bet. You could probably leave on a Friday, and return on a Monday.

a few yrs ago my best friend's dad died & she would call me often.

I sent her a card & let her know through email, msn & phone calls every day or so, that I was there.

On her dad's b'day & father's day for the first few yrs I would call her & make sure I knew she was being throught about.

They were a close family & loved easter so for easter of that year, a few wks after she travelled back home to where she worked, I sent her some pretty daisys (nothing funeral looking) & with a friendly "I'm thinking of you" note & I hope these brighten your day email!

Just do your best, and know that is a hard time for both her & for you b/c you can't be there. Oh yea & let her cry--that is what I learned.

Go and give her a surprise visit.Go on an weekend and stay there for a few days so that u dont hamper your studies.Make arrangements with your teachers and friends so that u can make it up for the lost days. She needs u now and would feel better if u r there with her....
Take good care of her....get her things that she would like...write her a poem or a song telling how much u love her...
good luck

she probablly told you she didn't want you to come down in that cryptic girl talk they do.

You know... when they tell you not to do something and then hold it over your head later because you didn't do it. You explain that you were just doing what they wanted, then they tell you that you should have known!
