Tony Stewart is a more versitile driver. He can win in any type of car. Jimmie Johnson is much more consistant. Their crew chiefs are two of the best in the garage, so they are even there. Equipment is equal as well. Tony often beats himself. I think I would pick Jimmie as the best, since he races smarter. Tony may have more raw talent, but Jimmie is the better driver.

I don't think anyone will argue that Tony Stewart has more driving ability than Jimmie Johnson. When it comes down who is better in the Nextel Cup series I would say Jimmie is the better driver. A big part of my reasoning is because no driver is better at managing his car and adapting to changing conditions during the course of a race than Johnson. He has a much cooler head, knows how to save his equipment and be there by the end to contend for the win. Their crew chiefs are fairly equal (Chad and Zippy are 1-2) and so is their equipment. Tony is the closest one to Jimmie in stats over the time (since 2002) they have both been full time cup drivers, though nobody has done better than Johnson. If they were to start jumping into different types of cars the nod would go back to Tony, but I think you're question is pertaining to NASCAR. For as good as Tony is he will never reach his full potential as a driver because of his impatience and the "I'm going to do what I want" attitude.

I think both are among the best drivers on the circuit. They wouldn't be where they are if this was not the case. There are so many factors present in determining a race winner including wrecks, mechanical failure, pit crew performance, and many others. Both Tony and Jimmie have the talent, equipment, and experience to win at any track on any given weekend.

Tony may be the better driver, but he is not the better person. I think Tony waste way to much of his talent wrecking people, driving dirty, and just saying the wrong thing. Tony is right about some things, but his reputation as being a dirty driver is well set. Nascar might actually take some of the things he says and not pay any attention to it, because in the past he has done so much wrong.
Does Nascar cheat some drivers out of races? I don't think so, this isn't professional boxing! Don King isn't calling for cautions. Nascar has a job to do, and after Sr died on the track, they have a harder job to do. Calling cautions for stuff on the track is a must in a sport where a blown tire can kill at 200 miles an hour.
Tony might be a better driver, but i think Jimmy will win more races and cups in the long run. (Tony is to diverse, just because he can drive everything doesn't mean he has to.) Think about it this way, racing 2 races in one day, and starting in the back of the nascar race, doesn't do much for your Nextell points..

Definately Tony Stewart. Smoke's won a championship in everything that he's driven. Including leading the majority of the laps consistently every week. Jimmie works on the car and moves up the field, but Tony brings a better car right off the hauler. It's close, but definately Tony Stewart.

Hard to say. They are both good in thier own way. Tony's car is pretty much good from the get-go. Jimmie has to work on his car during the race. I think Jimmie because its harder to make calls to fix a car that is tight/loose then drive one that is dead-on off the truck.
