Not the satan-worshipping, kool-aid drinking kind. More on the level of Free will and such.

Visit any church and you shall find your cult. However, The 700 Club, Scientology,The Westboro Baptist Church, and Focus on the Family are the biggest US Cults that use free will to goad you out of money and teach you asinine and in some cases extremely hateful garbage.

You don't know much about cults, do you?

Here are Lifton's eight features of a cult.

Milieu Control - controlling the environment. This would not be a problem if you are a God-fearing, prayerful person. Otherwise, addictions you didn't even know you had will raise their head.

Mystical Manipulation
It's all about God or absolute truth.

Demand for Purity
Black and white thinking. Fight or flight response. It's not good for you.

The Cult of Confession
There's nothing wrong with confessing when necessary, but a ritual to surround it means its more of an addiction than a generous concern for the feelings of others.

The "Sacred Science"
Science as we know it will be tossed out the window. Everything from pheremones to phrenology will gain new significance and even a new inventor - probably the cult leader.

Loading the Language
Your literacy (you've got Satan with a small "s" and free as a capital) will drop and you'll learn jargon. You might become verbose in it but you won't be your own person.

Doctrine Over Person
If you don't know what free will is in the first place, a cult won't teach you.

Dispensing of Existence
You will become more racist and sexist. Anybody who doesn't agree with the cult will be your new enemy. Your parents will be disparaged no matter how supportive they are.

The best ones are very hard to get into. Membership not easy. You can try for a year or longer in some cases and still might not be welcomed in.

To misquote L Ron Hubbard "If you want to make real money, start a religion" - Heck, if a science fiction writer can do it then you can too

It sounds like you are referring to Atheism, which is actually not a *cult*. A cult is a group of people who brainwash you and steal all your money. Sort of like Scientology. Christians believe in free will.
