It can be chanting, spell casting, prayer, or even well wishing. I believe that a common goal willed by a large collective can bring the desired result.

Even atheists should admit there is something to the power of positive thinking, and it seems to be more effective in groups.

what are your thoughts on the subject?

Yes...
I believe it focuses your attention to something you want to achieve in your life...and I think it can become more in some cases.

As a Christian, I pray to no one other than the Lord, because I know that He is the only source I can go to for an answered prayer, or any resolution to any matter.

I do not believe in spell casting or chanting. I believe they are not of God, and are certainly unproductive.

I also do not believe that a goal can be achieved solely based upon the will of a large collective. Unless that "large collective" is praying to God, I do not attribute any result they achieve as being due to their efforts.

Those are my thoughts.

I think positive thinking can help you, but only as an individual, because it puts you in a better frame of mind for most tasks. A bunch of people thinking "good thoughts" can't alter reality.

When I am hit with a problem that many people would pray about, I find that I'm more effective when I put my energy into action. Instead of prayer I will research a topic, write a letter, even make a gift - anything physical and real I can do to help the person I'm concerned about.

There's definitely power in prayer and chanting and casting spells. Question is WHOSE power are you calling on? There's a spiritual battle going on since Lucifer fell from heaven with 1/3 of the angels. Angels and demons engage in battle. Satan is battling for your soul. Angels are God's messengers who carry out God's commands. When you pray to God thru Jesus, you are praying to the Almighty All Powerful God. When you do anything else as you've mentioned, you are invoking evil spirits in your life, your home etc. - a dangerous thing to get involved in. Just be careful. You could get burned. So, yes there is power out there!

Of course positive thinking, focusing, concentrating, relaxing, and the placebo effect all have their benefits.

However, there are no gods to listen to your prayers. Try praying to big bird for a few weeks; you'll get the exact same results.

It makes no sense in a religious context - why would a god with a perfect plan change anything about it based on your prayer?

The same thing happens regardless if there is prayer or not. Religious people tout when something happens that they prayed for and forget when something that they prayed for doesn't happen. Remember that the people trapped in the Twin Towers collectively prayed until the buildings collapsed. The same thing will happen with or without prayer.

I was going to say that I don't pray, but you lumped in "well wishing" as part of your question. I do wish people well and I guess that's a type of prayer but I don't rely on god to do my bidding. I wish people well all on my own and I sincerely wish they will do well.

If that's what you want to call positive thinking, then I guess I do.

But I don't believe in the power of prayer to an unseen deity, no.

I believe that prayer, chanting, and meditation all have the potential to have self healing properties by using your own mind to uplift your soul and cleanse yourself of negativity. But there doesn't have to be anything religious about it.It can be as much spiritual or even chemical.

I do. In the study conducted by a Japanese Scientist, Masaru Emoto, prayer can change the molecules of waters into beautiful crystals and thus have healing power.

Hmmm so....for example......if a plague is wiping out the planet the power of prayer will cure people instead of doctors working towards a vaccine...okay!

How about them children starving in Africa - start praying for them and see if food "miraculously" appears.
