His hair is extremely thick like steal whool and it is very wavy and coarse. I need to know hair tips and maybe get some pic ideas...he's got thick italian hair.

A drop of jojoba oil is a good leave in conditioner. Kiehl's Silk Groom is a good styling cream. It conditions hair and adds a bit of definition w/o stiffness.
Since he has woolly hair, I'd recommend Joico K-Pak shampoo or another moisturizing shampoo.

If he's not in a hair-hostile environment, try washing it *less* often. The idea is to live with the hair rather than support the hair-care industry, right?
There are many people with *beautiful* hair that can't be brushed frequently. The trick is to learn what the hair needs.
I suggest looking in at jessicurl.com and checking the videos there. Even if the products aren't what he'd need, the hair care procedures may be a lot more useful than "brushing".
I also suggest reading Massey's book "Curly Girl". Forget that it's aimed at women. Just consider the hair. It's a recent publication available in bookstores and through some libraries. :-)

if his hair is very dry, then go to the drug store and get a hot oil treatment. use it on his hair. it will have instruction but it's so simple.
when that is done, you should look for a good
quality shampoo and conditioner. the conditioner is the part that loosens the hair so it's easy to comb or brush.
once you have the hair loosened up, then be sure to get him to brush his hair every day with one hundred strokes. this distributes a person's natural scalp oil through the entire hair.
