First off every child is different. I would talk to my doctor regardless. But I have been where you are. My son is eight years old now. But when he was born, he was 8 pounds 4 ounces. But when he started school he was so tiny. He was still wearing 24 months and 2T clothes. He was always the smallest in his class. Now he is one of the tallest. He eats like a horse now. But he is still not what you would call chuncky. Some kids have that high metabolizm. I wouldn't worry about it, although I've been where you are and its not easy not to worry. But talk to your doctor and when he reassures you, you will feel better. Good luck with your little man.

Don't be scared first off. Don't worry about it. Both my older two children were on the small size. The doctor told me that my son would be 5'4 at the most because of his weight and weight at the time.
Well my son is 6' foot now at 18. Guess the doctor was way off on him. Boys grow more when they hit the teen years.
My youngest is at the other end of the spectrum. He weighs 38 pounds and is 42 inches at age 3, he is at the 90 percentile on height and 75 percent in weight.
The major difference is that the little guy is a protein eater. Big time protein eater. From his steak, chicken, seafood, pork. He loves it all. He doesn't mind the chewing which most kids find tiresome.
There was a study done, it found that people in one country were extremely taller than average. They also noted these people had a larger amount of protein in their diets.

My son's stats were nearly identical to yours. He was 8lbs 14oz, 20 inches. I'm 5'3", hubby is 5'8". My son will be 4 in July, but last year at his 3 year well child check he was at 27lb and about 33 inches. Like your son, he'd gone from the 90% down to 50%. My biggest concern was that he'd only gained about 2lbs from age 2 to 3, but my doc said he's perfectly healthy. I don't think that you have anything to worry about, he sounds like a good healthy active kid to me.
P.S. In the last 9 months my son has shot up to 38 inches tall and 33lbs, so I'm sure your son will be in for a big growth spurt soon. I think the most frustrating part is that he's so skinny that he could still wear pants that are about 24 month size around the waist, but length-wise he needs the 4T now so we always have to make sure that pants have the adjustable waistbands.

As long as he's not off the charts in either direction and hasn't had a sudden loss of weight, he's probably fine. My son was 7 lb 10 oz at birth and was a big baby, but he's a very small toddler. He is 3 1/2 and weighs only 29 pounds ... other kids do seem larger, but you're probably only noticing the ones that are b/c you are concerned about it. Hang in there and talk to your pediatrician. Unless there is some medical issue, he's probably fine! :)

That is pretty small. My son is 14 months, 32 inches, and 30 pounds. Yes, he is big for his age, but your son is 3 and almost the same size. He should have tripled his weight in the first year and he obviously did not. Definitely get him checked just in case. He could just be a late bloomer too, you never know.

I've never been in exactly your dilemma, but I do have children and know that no two are the same.Given the height and weight you've mentioned, he may be smaller than average, but this is no reason to get worried or upset. As long as your doctor doesn't find anything medically wrong with him (such as worms or pituitary malfunction), then you should accept him as he is. Maybe he'll grow into his age, and maybe he'll always be a compact and wiry sort of fellow. See that he eats healthy and gets plenty of exercise, and he'll be just as strong as the bigger kids.

my daughter is almost three feet or at least a foot past my knee and she is 35 pounds. she has a tall daddy who is partial Samoan. kids are all different. my girl was 7 11 when she was born. kids get taller and lengthen out and their body weight gets evenly distributed. worry if he/she isn't grown up wards and only out wards. check weight with Doctor every 3 months to make sure they are growing correctly. other wise his weight and height are no problems for now.

I wouldn't worry at all.... My daughter is 3 and 1/2 and is alittle over 30 lbs. She eats at her own pace, and eats what she needs. I mentioned my concern to her pediatrician and she asked me "Why do you want an overweight girl? She is perfectly fine!" she is just average and will probably be thin and normal, nothing to worry about. Besides multivitamins, I feed her Pedialite pop sickles, because I feel she is not eating enough, and I think it has helped, So don't worry, your child is growing at his own pace, I'd be concerned if he didn't ate at all.... take care !!!
