I swear, in all 5 years of me converting to Islam, I never once met a fundamentalist in real life who followed me around preaching. I was in the public library with my two children wearing a traditional salwar kameez and my winter coat with the hood up (It hides the hair well). Based on my dress, the woman assumed I had married a Hindu man and converted to Hinduism for him. She kept saying "Oh, you're wrong, be saved, it's the devil". I tried to be respectful at first, saying "This is what you feel. You can say what you want, my beliefs are my beliefs" (I didn't say I wasn't a Hindu, because it wasn't any of her business that I am a muslim woman). She kept on and on, finally I turned around and said "OK, lady, I've been polite to you enough and that doesn't get the message through that I am not interested in preaching. Had I been interested, I would have gone to a church. As it stands, I am in a public library and you are harassing me in a country where we have freedom of

religion. I think you are very rude to come up to me and start forcing your beliefs down my throat when I didn't even take a second glance in your direction. For all you know, you could be wrong, and for all I know, I could be wrong. I believe what I want, and nothing you say can change that. By the way, I am a muslim woman, and no matter what you say, you can't shake my faith. In fact, fundies like you make it even stronger because it seems you are so insecure you have to leap on people who are only DRESSED differently than you and make assumptions. Didn't you know good Christians are to follow the bible? ANd part of that is "Judge not lest ye be judged". She backed off after that. What would you have done after being polite for the first 10 minutes?

Do I get approached by fundamentalists? I live in the bible belt, need I say more?

I can't even sit in a waiting room reading a science fiction novel without a fundie coming up to me and lecturing me about the evils of Darwin.

I would probably have said the same thing. I was at a Pagan Pride day when some came up to us and said they were praying for our souls. We thanked them and they stayed to talk to us. They found out we weren't bad people either. We offered them some food and drink. Difference is that my clothing is no different from any one elses so I bet you get harassed more than I do. Stay strong in your faith. No one will know who is right until they pass on anyways.

When u r at converstaions like this with a non muslim be polite and calmly give logical replies (No arguments).....but reply only if u feel he or she is intersted to know, if he just trying to make some fun or trying to hurt you better just leve without going into any harsh words........Our Prophet Peace be Upon Him has shown many many lessons of patience for us do u know an old woman used to throw garbage on our Prophet Peace be Upon Him daily once he was going near her home she didnt throw garbage he asked and came to know she is ill today.....He (Peace be Upon Him) went to her home and to see her and for this act she got so impressed that she accepted Islam immediately......so u live in non muslims b polite and b patient....and never hide that u r not a muslim always tell every one that yes u r muslim and you are proud to be muslim.....Good luck

Have you ever been approached by an atheist and berated for what you believe? Probably not. Atheists are kind, let people believe what they want, do not start fights or wars for any reason, usually are committed to world peace and are rational, logical and scientific in their thinking.
They fear religious nuts of all kind because they know how dangerous religion can be.

Oh I have met, in fact a few. Mostly christians and 1 fanatic muslims.

Christians used to shoved their religion down my throat but I gagged them with my versus and phrases and my strong faith!

While the fanatic muslim, I invited him to my home and serve him food and let him spend the night. Listen to his preach and get over with it.

No one can ever ever ever shake me from my true believe. I am too rooted to be uprooted.

Don't judge all fundamentalists by this one person. Some of them are very nice loving people. Just like any group, there are some extremists. Be careful not to think poorly of them all, some of them will do anything for you and expect nothing in return. We all have our own ways of expressing our faith.

You insulted the woman who is trying to help you in her ways but if you do not like to accept her ideas, say so in a nice way so that she will not hurt. Supposing she is suffering from heart failure and the moment you hurt her feeelings, she was attack and died infront of you, would you be happy deep inside your heart?

If you were in a library, you should have complained to the library manager that you were being harassed.
