Joseph Smith was the polygamous leader of the Mormon cult...a Christian cult.

Thanks for the link to "the wives". That was very interesting. If anyone reads that and stays Mormon...they deserve it.

Okay where are you people getting your information? He was married to Emma Smith and and was a martyr in every sense of the word. He was jailed unlawfully one of many times that hateful people tried to have hime killed, and was shot from both inside the jail and outside the jail by an angry mob, along with his brother and friend. Ironically a mob that considered themselves christian..if you ask me not a very christian thing to do. And as far as being a cult, everyone should really look up that definition, because all it would take is sitting in on one meeting, or talking with a member to realize that a "cult" is a far cry from the truth. Seriously people just respect other peoples beliefs the same way you want them to respect yours and lets all try to do something that all religions preach universaly...LOVE ONE ANOTHER!! wow what a concept...people of different beliefs, backgrounds, and races coinciding harmoniously together. Lets give eachother a rest huh?

It depends on what you call a child. The age of consent in most states at the time was 10. Records are sketchy, but some evidence suggests his youngest wife was 14.

For the LDS Church's position on polygamy see http://www.mormon.org/question/faq/category/answer/0,9777,1601-1-114-1,00.html.

As far as the Church being a cult -- judge for yourself after you learn about its teachings, hopefully from a credible source. I believe it's the most Christian church today.

Joseph Smith learned that practice from a Arabian man that lived 1200 year before him.

I thought Joseph Smith died in a shootout at what amounted to their version of the OK Corral? And for a "martyr", should he have been shooting back?

Which Joe Smith are you talking about?

Anyway, that's a Christian name and, if I'm not mistaken, that thing's a Muslim practice, quite rare, even among them.

He was sealed to 16 year old Helen Mar Kimball, but the marriage was never consummated, according to Miss Kimball's journal. He was supposedly married to another girl who was 14-16, but we don't know if it was consummated.

The youngest were 14. While I do not advocate marriage for 14 year olds, I am reluctant to call them "child brides" as if they were prepubescents. As a frame of reference, 14 is the age of sexual consent in Canada.

(I'm not Mormon, in case you were wondering).

Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior! Amen! And nobody can judge anyone who believes on the Lord Jesus but Jesus himself. And the name of the church is The Church Of JESUS Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Get it right! Why isn't your church named Jesus Christ? You can't name a church after a man, or an idea or an event. ONLY JESUS CHRIST. It must bear his name. If you deny him before man he denies you before the Father. JESUS CHRIST is the name of the true church. Do you understand that everyone is DENYING CHRIST with their stupid church names. CHRIST DENIERS! John the BAPTIST isn't going to save you. LUTHER is not going to save you. But Churches insist on names like BAPTIST, LUTHERN, ect..... Quit denying JESUS CHRIST. And quite thinking that we deny the Lord by calling the church the by the WRONG name. May the LORD REBUKE YOU! Love and peace out. Sorry, I''m just trying to make a point. God bless.
