When Angel appeared to Mother Mary and said about the child, she doubt and asked how can that be? Angel said don't worry, it is done as said in the past this and that. Ok.

Same time, Zacharia's wife also got pregnant after praying so hard and Zacharia had a doubt and angel made his mouth shut and Zacharia couldn't talk until the time it came to name the his child.

Angel took side and it is unfair, I think mother Mary too had doubt but no punishment, Zacharia too doubt but severe punishment. Can someone explain? Thanks

Both Questioned an Angel as I remember. (I don't remember and I don't have a bible now to check it). So both did a bad thing according to the first answer.

Questioning an Angel is not a problem, if you don't understand then people have the right to ask.

When Gabriel appeared to Zechariah, he told him that his prayer had been heard. Obviously, Zechariah had been praying for a child, and when he was told that God would answer his prayer, he didn't believe. On the other hand, Mary's question was not so much doubt as wondering how God would do it. When the angel told Zechariah his wife would have a child, he said, "I don't believe it." When the angel told Mary that the Holy Spirit would come over her and she would conceive she said, "I'll so whatever the Lord wants." There is more doubt in Zechariah's response, hence the punishment.

Angels don't take sides. They are God's messengers delivering his message.
With Mary, she asked the angel out of humility. Like the same as a child asking you how would something work. You would with pleasure explain to the child. But Zacharia asked out of curiosity and pride. As if this could never happen since he was old and his wife Elizabeth was way past child bearing age.So because of his arrogance in asking the angel, God made him deaf till his son was born.

The father of John the Baptist was a priest of Father God serving in the Temple of God. He should have known better. Mary was probably only a teenager and she could have lost her life if she became pregnant out of wedlock. Big difference.
