Looking into the eyes of fully realized Teacher, guide (Guru),
is like looking into a mirror. A Guru (If it is ok to use the word)
allows you to see the potholes on the path of life. The Guru will take from you what you don't need and is unnecessary for your journey. We all carry around so much unnecessary baggage that indeed we are at times heavy laden with stuff. A Guru, if a true one, will give you directions that will help you stay on the correct path, so you don't wander. Finding an authentic Guru in this day and age is very difficult, if not near impossible. A true Guru will never allow himself to participate
with the changing of money for any ones personal gain. God is the final goal on our journey, that is our primary objective.
Regarding fast progress...Guru or not, it is up to the student
as to how quickly progress is made. The Guru is there to give aid if it becomes necessary, but the student must show determination and certitude in the practice of his own spiritual
faith........ May Gods Grace be with you on your path!

Dear Friend, A good teacher is needed to achieve progress in any field. In case of your spiritual growth also, a good teacher or a guide is needed in order to show you the right way or to guide in the spiritual path. The teacher has to be one who had already travelled long in his spiritual journey, so that he/she may guide you in the light of his own experiences.
The spiritual experiences and growth vary from people to people. but taking guidance of a guru is very helpful. If you are really in the path of your spiritual journey, and if you are serious about it, teacher will come to you, you do not have to search for him. he/ she will help you to clear certain confusions that occur now and then. . He cannot teach you how to love, but he can help you create a confusion free and doubtless mind. You keep loving God and he clears the path for you. You will realise, As you said, if love is a natural phenomenon, it is the same with find a 'guru' for yourself too. It's natural. No effort is required for it.

I can not write so much but I'll try to explain in a way that I've understood
God is the goal or specificly love for God
so the Guru helps us by showing us what pure love is
he makes sure we don't deviate from unalloyed devotion
The pure Guru has that kind of devotion and it is reflected in the heart of the sincere disciple

SO we have love eternally in our heart but it's like a seed we need to water it by hearing chanting remembering etc

we also need to purify the dirt off our heart (ie-lust anger greed pride illusion envy)
Guru dose this by showing our true relationship with god
Guru is the form of gods mercy
Jai Gurudeva
much more can be said but I'll keep it simple
(and i can only type w/ one finger)

Guru is needed regardless what you doing. To learn anything you need a guru(teacher). in school u need guru, in sport you need guru. why it should be different to a spirituality.
And i believe the fastest way to achieve anything in life is to learn from a person who is already been there.
Of course love is a natural phenomenon. but it has to be unconditional. love with expectations is not the love that will lead you to enlightenment. i think love with God means, love each and everything without being judgemental.

First of all, find a guru or mentor. Growing spiritually begins with admitting you need help.

What you need is the Holy Ghost. The Bible says that if we turn from our sins and get Baptized in the name of Jesus for the payment of our sins, then God will give us the gift of the Holy Ghost, God Himself.(Acts 3:38) You will become one with God!

Yes, the path of love is one way. The path of knowledge is another.
