I need to know how to get a copy of my W2 form from last year because I need it and I don't know where it is...does anyone know?

Your employer is required by law to keep such information on file. Contact your 2006 employer and request a duplicate W-2. If that is not possible go to IRS.GOV; forms download and get the form necessary to request your W-2 information.

Your best route is to go back to the employer that issued it and request a copy. If they are out of business or otherwise cannot produce a copy, you can request the information from the IRS via a transcript of your account. The transcript will not be the actual W2 but will contain the information that you need.

You can get the form to request the transcript from the IRS website at www.irs.gov. If you have a tax preparer or CPA that files returns electronically (e-file), they should be able to get you a transcript immediately via the e-file system.

Get it from the employer who issued it in the first place. That is the fastest way by far to get a copy.
