It's possible, but no way to tell for sure. At your appeal hearing, if the judge decided you are not able to do ANY work you may have the disability decision go in your favor. Some people aren't aware that a lot depends on your age. Social security considers you possibly retrainable for another job if you are under 50.
Consider yourself fortunate if you had a hearing within 15 months after you became disabled (stopped working). My husband has been disabled due to ankylosing spondylitis, similar to RA, for over 2 years. He filed in Oct. 2005, got turned down, and appealed. He still doesn't have a hearing date, and we have a good attorney.
Good luck to you.

I have RA, am still mobile but am on Disability in Europe have been since 1998. Few things you need to know, their is NO KNOWN CURE, so no matter what medicines you take, or do not take you are always going to have RA. Likewise you will go into remissions and flares. However as you age the time in remission will get shorter and the time in the flare get longer. As someone once said to me 'You have a choice, money or health, but you cannot have both!' I choose health!
I get annoyed when Lawyers cannot see that RA is a serious chronic condition that lasts a lifetime. If you were told you only had six months to live, would you rush out and find a job, or rush out and do what you always wanted to do? RA for me means having to play constant 'catch-up' on things I wanted to do, but the health would not allow.
I wish you all the best and I really hope you get Disability Benefits. However remember you will not have a luxury lifestyle, but the quality of your health should improve.

It all depends on how extreme your condition is. If you feel you cant work because of it then you should apply. I help patients apply for benefits at my last job. the application process can be long and drawn out most of the time you need to see a doctor that social security sends you to and he will determine weather or not you are unable to work and for how long.allot of times if you are not completely disabled they say there is something you can do or limit your amount of hours a day then you are deemed employable and not eligible for benefits.most cases that are not presumptive get denied the first time around so if that happens and you feel you cant work file for an appeal so they can request medical history and look over your case again. hope you feel better good luck.

If you are turned down again, you might try going to an attorney who specializes in Social Security benefits. My grandfather had RA; he died before the advent of things like Humira and he was in so much pain all the time... he took Methotrexate, Prednisone, and many, many other drugs... his docs never gave him pain medication... he had to have surgery on his feet to be able to walk semi-normally. I know how debilitating it can be. I remember all the crazy home remedies he tried for the pain (cod liver oil, golden raisins soaked in gin, etc.) because he was just so desperate to get some relief. You surely deserve SS benefits in MY opinion (not that it counts for much) for being in that kind of hell. Good luck

it is a hard thing to achive this because they always say there ia a job out there you can do-i mean if you cant be on your feet they expect you can get a job where you are sitting all day-i know since my brother in law was trying to get it and they kept denying-but he kept appealing it but after awhile you cant appeal anymore-he got a lawyer and finally ended up getting on SS. good luck

It is worth a try. Can be very time consuming, but if you are truly dis sabled, apply for benefits.
