There are a few that make them for government and commercial use, but they generally cost about $20 to $30 thousand or more. Beyond that it is a mater of personal preference. There are three classes of digital cameras: the consumer class: view finder cameras costing less than $300. The prosumer class: DSLR's costing under $1000 and the professional class: DSLR's costing over $1000. The more common brands in the prosumer class are Cannon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax. Sony is coming up in class too but seem to have a lot of problems with their products holding up.

I've owned a sony and a canon digital camera. I personally like the canon one much better for its compactness and great quality in pictures. It also has many cool functions. Canons are definitely worth the prices.

In order of professional quality: Hasselblad (If you want to spend $30,000), Nikon, Canon. The order changes regularly since they are competing, so it does not matter.
