a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. This is the definition of religion found on dictionary.com So all the people who question if atheism is or is not what do you think now. I think it is.

Athesim does havre these attributes because they are denying a creator, they do want to modify the law, and there are many who do come together for a certain type of movement like wanting to band religion in schools or modifying the national athem.

Your take is pretty accurate. Atheism is a belief system exactly like religion is a system of belief. There is no scientific way to prove the existence or the absence of a creator.
But, there is a larger issue here. Why would someone want to or need to believe there is no creator. The answer, in my opinion, is because a creator represents a power greater than man who sits in judgment of man. That represents a moral absolute or to put it in simple terms, there is "right and wrong", "good and evil".
Atheism is, per se, the national religion of socialism. Since, socialism believes in absolute power being in the hands of the government, they cannot have anyone or anything sitting in judgment of their actions. That is why, every time a socialist system is established in any country, the first thing they do is eliminate all religious practice. They discredit and destroy all religious officials and places.
I think socialism is the cause that drives the current movement towards atheism.

Let me break down the definition:
a set of beliefs: yes
concerning the cause of the universe: no
concerning the nature of the universe: yes!
concerning the purpose of the universe: no!
especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency: absolutely not!
usually involving devotional and ritual observances: no!
often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs: No, though atheists do tend to largely agree on ethics
I think atheism is a philosophical belief system, but is not a religion.

"the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe"
This is not addressed in the definition of Atheism, other than the negation of a transcendent being outside of the universe.
"usually involving devotional and ritual observances"
This is also nowhere in Atheism.
"often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs"
This is also nowhere in Atheism. Atheists are dependent on other philosophies to develop a stance on Ethics.
Atheism is a singular position on the existence of a transcendental agency.
This offers nothing else and as such is not a religion.
EDIT: "Athesim does havre these attributes because they are denying a creator, they do want to modify the law, and there are many who do come together for a certain type of movement like wanting to band religion in schools or modifying the national athem."
No Atheists are trying to "ban religion in schools". They are enforcing the Separation of Church and State, which does nothing to private religions of the students in schools.
Everything else you brought up in this paragraph can also be seen in Gay and Lesbian Movements, yet these are not religions, are they?
Not to mention, that those Atheists you mention are by and large Materialist Atheists, set aside from Religious/Spiritual Atheists...
Again, your generalizing too much from the common Atheist you see on TV.

A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe:
Atheism doesn't have that. Atheism only has the denial of god. It doesn't replace theism with anything else, though it may appear to since most atheists turn to scientific reasoning. Atheism is not science and science is not atheism.
Creation of a superhuman agency or agencies:
Atheism definitely has a set of beliefs about that.
Devotional and ritual observances:
Atheism has none of these.
A moral code governing conduct:
Atheism doesn't have this.
Based on this definition, I would conclude that atheism is not a religion. Why? It doesn't have any of the attributes other than an explanation regarding the existence of god(s).

After reading that definition, you think so? Really? The greek root of 'a' means w/o. There are no beliefs in anything supernatural and there are no observational or devotional observances and no dictation of how to conduct human affairs. And, there's not any set belief in how anything was created or purpose.

Atheism is not a philosophy or belief system. It simply means to not believe in God – that’s it. Atheists share nothing else in common: government, politics, warfare, nature, science, social programs, social values, etc.

Webster's Dictionary defines religion as; "Belief in, and WORSHIP of, a god or gods. 2) A specific system of belief, WORSHIP etc. often involving a code of ethics. The word worship is used in both definitions. As an Atheist, whom do you worship?

Other people invent gods, fail to offer proof of their existence, it even causes that I need to use a label (atheism) to tell them I don't believe in their fantasies...
And now those same people who invented these gods tell me that I seem to be part of a religious group. It's almost funny, if it weren't so silly.
If atheism is a religion, then anorexia is a type of cuisine.

i don't attempt and dispute something. they're unfastened to have confidence what they want as long as they don't cram it down my throat and say i bypass to hell and such. i'm a passive person and don't want to combat. yet I do want to benefit approximately different faiths and problems with that nature.
