I know someone who drinks alot, and even goes to his church with more than a few shots. But he never gets rolling drunk, just on a daily basis he's pretty much tanked?
He seems to be sincere in his covictions.
People may have alot to say about it, but what does the bible?
Is he really saved? or saved but has to change? or What?

The bible say that you should not drink hard liquor if you want to be a leader in the church, or a wine bibber if you want to be a deacon.
you can drink to excess and still be saved, and if God want him to change, then God will change Him, he took all desire for alcohol from me, before i started going back to church.

When a person is saved, it is expected that they put on a new skin. Meaning they are expected to change their old ways for new ways and habits. New wine cannot work in old win skins. This means that a person excepts Christ Jesus as his Savior for by his grace we are saved, not by our deeds. A person can have that belief and still be influenced by alcohol or drugs because they are chemically addicted. This person may need help and God helps those who help themselves. If he does not take his new faith to heart then it is like putting new wine in an old skin. It will burst from the expansion of the new wine. I don't think that a person is lost because they have an addiction. Salvation is in the heart, not in the body. But unless they come to terms, that they are powerless over Alcohol and seek help from AA or a center for treatment, they will continue to destroy their lives and have a grave effect on their family not to mention their physical body. The bible also says that Jesus was accused of being a wine bibber, or a drunk. Not that he was. He hung out with people who did drink because he said I come to heal the sick, not the well.

A very serious question.

I do not believe that drinking is forbidden in the BIBLE. JESUS turned water into wine when the wine ran out at a marriage feast. If HE disapproved of people drinking wine and celebrating, HE WOULD NOT HAVE DONE SO.

The Bible says to "be not drunk with wine" it does not prohibit drinking. The problem is self control. Drinking just a little, can lead to drinking more and an addiction to alcohol.

My advice is to NOT DRINK ALCOHOL, because in a moment of despair you will hit the bottle(s) with the thirst of a person lost in the desert without water. (been there, done that).

It is just TOO EASY to let a few drinks turn into an addiction.

JESUS loves you,

dave

I believe that he is still saved. Once you are saved, you are always saved. He just has somethings he need to work on and this case would be the heavy drinking. Sometimes people use the miracle Jesus performed at the wedding and they try to say that there is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. I am not sure of any scriptures but you can go to the back of your bible and try to find a scripture pertaining to "strong wines or drink"......God Bless...

There are several Biblical passages that mention drunkeness (tanked) in a negative manner. Romans 13:13 is one you might take a look at. Basically it is speaking about the way were are not to behave and it mentions sexual immorality (orgies) as well as drunkeness. The whole idea behind all of the scriptural passages is that drinking to excess causes us to lose our ability to think clearly in the way God wants us to think and thus causes poor behavior as well.

People may be sincere in their religious convictions but still be addicted to a substance like alcohol or tobacco or nicotine gum (that one is mine). It does not mean that God is okay with it...it just means that we need to struggle against these bad habits. Just because someone is saved does not mean that he or she is still not sinning sometimes. It is however something that they need to be fighting against so I would say if this friend of yours has a problem with alcohol, he needs to find some help to overcome it. AA perhaps. If he is addicted, he does not need to be condemned but helped. Perhaps your church people can do this by trying to understand what the addiction is really all about and then perhaps find a member that belongs to AA to talk to him.

What God commands Christians regarding alcohol is to avoid drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18). The Bible condemns drunkenness and its effects (Proverbs 23:29-35). Christians are also commanded to not allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:19). Drinking alcohol in excess is undeniably addictive. Scripture also forbids a Christian from doing anything that might offend other Christians or might encourage them to sin against their conscience (1 Corinthians 8:9-13). In light of these principles, it would be extremely difficult for any Christian to say he is drinking alcohol to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Eph 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

He can be saved but it's doubtful that he is full of the Holy Spirit. Baptism in the Holy Spirit could make a world of difference as the Spirit is what gives us to power and self-control to be able to stop doing that.

Everything in moderation. Remember that people who have been drinking for a long time will build up a tolerance to alcohol. Alcoholism is a real possibility too. And while it's true that faith can help, an alcoholic needs treatment, just like any other disease. I'm a recovering alcoholic with 8 years sober, and I work with other alcoholics every day.

Throughout the Bible you can read about people drinking wine. According to the Bible, there is nothing wrong with drinking alchohol unless you drink in excess or it is a "stumbling block" to another person, i.e. you drink in front of former alchoholic.

So, throw back a few. If Solomon had 1000 wives, you can have 3 beers.
