Sorry Blogbaba. For once I have to disagree with you my friend. This one is not so easy. In fact it is a tough call. Dempsey was faster and busier and had a slightly better defense and boxing ability. Rocky was stronger and sturdier. Punching power? Rocky's seemed more consistent, but Jack could let loose a murderous wallop, too. Let's call them even.

Every good fighter that fought Rocky was able to go toe to toe with him and slug it out. Charles, Walcott and Moore traded with him successfully. Busted him up pretty bad actually, before they themselves were taken out. Even blubbery Don Cockell was able to fight head-on with Rocky, so I see no reason why Dempsey couldn't have a large measure of success there as well.

I guess it would all come down to Rocky being able to withstand Jack's furious assault long enough for his own strength to come through to flatten the Manassa Mauler in the later rounds. That's usually how he did it. My guess is that he would in this fight as well, but I wouldn't bet on it. Not at all.

I would however, pay for a ringside seat! Rocky by TKO in 10 or 11.

IN HONOR OF THE LATE GREAT SANTANA, I WILL GIVE MORE EXTENSIVE ANSWERS LIKE I USED TO.

DEMPSEY - W 65 (KO's 50) TF 82 - W pct 80% - KO pct 67% - wins over Williard, Firpo, Carpentier, Sharkey and Moran - KO'ed by "Fireman" Jim Flynn - #7 ranked puncher - #16 rated fighter
He later became a referee
The " Golden Age of Sports" - 1920's - Babe, Dempsey and Red Grange
It has been alleged that Jack was draft dodger - that he hid out on the docks during WW1

MARCIANO - W 49 (KO's 43) TF - W pct 100% - KO pct 88% - wins over Louis, Walcott{2}, Moore and Charles[2] - KO'ed by none - #14 ranked puncher - #12 ranked fighter
Retired undefeated as champion as a fighter
I give Rocco plenty of kudos for being smart enough to stay retired

When u look how these guys are rated as fighters and punchers, it appears to be an even fight that could go either way. Both were great sluggers.
This bout can have two possible outcomes.
Under the modern era rules - Dempsey could win by a ref stoppage due to cuts.
The other outcome is Rocco by a split decision

In revisionist history both men have problems:
Dempsey - his record is partially discounted because he wouldn't face black opponents
Marciano - it has been said that the great black fighters that he fought were over the hill.

This bout could be billed as "the Battle of the Great Whites"

This one would have re-defined the word "savage", and Dempsy's heart and agression wouldn't have been able to keep his chin from betraying him. Marciano would have put Jack away a lot faster than some of the old school pundits would like to admit. No knock on Dempsy, but neither he nor his nemisis Tunney could have went the distance with Rocky. Marciano would have walked through Dempsy inside of three rounds, and taken maybe twice as long to cut the ring off on Tunney and KO Gene in about 6.

Rocky Marciano in 3 by KO
