From my basic understanding, Christianity is all about love and doing no harm to others, then why do they go on wars or join army?

Like people of all cultures, Christians love to kick butt, steal oil, and dominate the world in the name of their god.
The cure for extreme religiosity is atheism.

It would depend upon the war. I am against the Afghanistan or Iraqi War but I am fully supportive of wars that defend the human rights of others. I would not join the military at this moment, because I do not want to support this war. In a different case (such as defending human rights) I'd probably be very open to joining the military. I actually would be quite interested in being apart of the medical team in the Air force.

Ecclesiastes 3:8 declares, “there is…a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. In a world filled with sin, hatred, and evil (Romans 3:10-18), war is inevitable. Some wars are more “just” than others, but all wars are ultimately the result of sin. Christians should not desire war, but neither are Christians to oppose the government God has placed in authority over them (Romans 13:1-4; 1 Peter 2:17). The most important thing we can be doing in a time of war is to be praying for godly wisdom for our leaders, praying for the safety of our military, praying for quick resolution to the conflict, and praying for minimum casualties – on both sides of the conflict (Philippians 4:6-7).

Actually there are many who don't and won't.

I for one hate war but understand that sometimes it takes blood shed to gain freedom.

Think of the Revolution war. The Cival war, and so many others.

Most importantly, think of Jesus on the cross, how violent, how painful, how sad. But that is what it took to free me from sins penalty.

So I will fight if I must but would always want peace.

Some day I will be in Heaven, no wars, no violence, just eternal peace d:O)

If you read the Bible, there are plenty of wars spoken of in there. Christians go to war for the same reason everyone else does. In our country our reason is to preserve our freedoms. Such as our freedom of speech, if we did not have that we would not be allowed to speak about our different beliefs on here, we would only be allowed to pretend we believed one way, because we fight we are free to say what we really feel and not what someone tells us to feel. :)

They follow the Bible. The Bible says 'Do not murder' or the line by Plato associated with Jesus, 'Do unto others...' But then there are plenty of verses calling for this or that person to be murdered in some way and plenty of stories (in the OT) about God instructing his followers to wage a battle or war for any number of reasons.
So, a person can find a bible verse to support whatever their desire is. Especially when it comes to murder.

To learn to use the bayonet! Q: What is the purpose of the bayonet? A: To kill! Q: What kinds of bayonet fighter are there? A: The quick and the dead! Q: Let me hear you growl! A: AAAARRRRGGGHHH!

Um - nowhere in the Bible does it say you cannot defend yourself and your countrymen in time of war. What did Jesus say to the Centurion about accepting his wages and being just in his dealings with others? Did he condemn the Centurion for being a warrior? I don't think so...
