Yes, we are to live our lives holy and set apart to God, to do what is pleasing to Him.We are not to be conformed by the pressures of this world and the things in it, but we are to be transformed through the word and by the Holy Spirit. The way we speak, act, dress, how we treat others, etc., should reflect our love for God. He does not judge our outward appearance, as some believe, but our hearts. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be modest in all things. We should, above all, show the love of Christ to everyone.

Jesus does not separate, he unites. He said "be in the world but not part of it", meaning that we are not to run off to a cave somewhere and hide our light under a bushel basket.
We are to be the light of the world and set an example for others and through our light we then glorify God. Many people look and act like the world because we want to experience the world. The culture we live in is influenced by money and the desire for happiness. We have the media that plays a large roll in setting trends and life stiles for those who seek acceptance through stereo types. Let us also consider that there is a dark influence in everything that has to do with our senses and self gratification. This may explain the reasons but does not change a thing. Mankind has to change his paradigms and attitude towards Whole- ly- ness before the change you may desire takes place.

The Bible also says be in the world but not of it. You are probably right that too many try to look and act like the world, but there are also too many who try to live different than the world in ways that have no barring on what they Bible is talking about. Those people often say that we should cut our hair to look like Christians, wear clothing that makes us look like Christians, read books that make us look like Christian and say things in the old King James.

Let us truly be in the world physically and with great grace, but not of the world trapped in sin.

I am part of a very strict religious group that some people call a cult, and we firmly believe in being different from the world. A lot of people just say we have too many rules; well it's not so much a matter of going by rules as it is a matter of being totally dedicated to God.

Yes! And in Revelation 18: 4, it tells us to get out of the empire of false religions on earth... God never wanted us to worship with the false idol worships (James 1:27) (John 4: 24) that the religions have adopted for their own as a form of worship... Even Jesus said that he was no part of the world... so why should we, if we claim to be his followers??? On the other hand, it is written that the whole world lies in the power of the wicked one... Thanks for bringing this up!

That means to be a separate people unto God in all Holiness and Purity, truth and honor

It is not the outward appearance

God looks at the hidden man of the heart

He knows your heart and that is what counts

Yet I say some dress it just too much if it is done to allure or draw attention to as in a sexual way, but not in normal dress that goes for men too....................

Good question. I think all Christians need to take a personal look at themselves and ask themselves why do I dress the way I do, act the way I do, etc.. and is it pleasing to God.
Is the way I live giving glory to God? We are to be peculiar people zealous of good works.

because most Christians either don't read the Bible very much or they're not very firm in their faith. it's like being some bits of sand, you stay on the beach, symbolizing your faith in Jesus Christ, or get pulled by the tide, symbolizing the world's ideas. you either get pulled or you don't. it just appears that your faith is the problem not the world
