I went to the eye doctor four months ago for a checkup and got new glasses and everything checked out clear and perfect (aside from needing stronger lenses). However, for the past three weeks I've been getting double vision and having trouble focusing on things. Could it just be allergies?

If you are taking any antihistamines for your allergies it could be caused by them. If you aren't taking any meds for your allergies then consult your eye doctor and see what he thinks. I have listed some other causes for double vision below.

Other causes of double vision can include:
Misalignment of eyes (strabismus), leading to defects in eyesight.
Head injuries that can cause nerve damage and resulting vision defects.
Other neurological disorders that could be related to conditions such as tumors affecting crucial nerves and muscles controlling ocular movements, or diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
Cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s natural or crystalline lens that often occurs with aging, also can sometimes produce double vision.

It is definitely not due to allergies.

As for the double vision, you have to qualify the kind of double vision. Do you actually see two separate opbjects when you look at a single object or is there just a bit of shaddowing?

If it is the latter, then it might be that you have an incorrect prescription for your glasses. Astigmatism has been known to cause perception of shaddows around objects.

If it is the former then you might be suffering from a great number of possible diseases (pointless to enumerate them all here) that can cause mis-alignment of your eyes.

I suggest that you go to a board certified ophthalmologist right away if it is "frank" doubling of vision.

I would get checked out again right away, even if you don't seem to have other symptoms...it could be an anuyrism (not spelled correctly) my son complained of double vision and his dr. immediately had him seen by a pediatric opthamologist, thankfully he is fine, but it caused a huge panic with his doctor. This is serious and muct be checked right away. Please don't wait. It could just be that your prescription is incorrect, but you need to find out.

I have never heard of double vision associated with allergies.

I don't think so allergies could do that if your eyes are wattery or if you have them really bad but not for three weeks. Go back to the doctors and tell them what is happening.
