Everything that you and I do in life is a choice. I dont believe God only forgives you if you ask. His love is inconceivable and insurmountable. If you believe in choices. God gives us all a free will. We can all do what ever we want to. But, each actions causes a reaction. There is also something we call cause and effect. God loves you, and he accepts you just the way you are. But in life and in everything there are rules of engagement. He does not condemn you and damn you to hell. He gives you options and choices, and if you chose to go out side of the rules of engagement, then he has set guidelines for that as well. God loves you regardless of all things, and he forgives you unconditionally. But, if you chose to not follow Him or if you chose not to follow the rules of engagement. You choose your own path and fate. Just like the Law. They are rules that are set in balance, we can choose to abide by them or we can chose to break them. But if we chose to break them, there are consequences.

The Lord will forgive every one as long as we are willing to forgive others. Some times we need to forgive first in order to show sincerity of our request. I could quote scripture if you wanted but then I would probably be labeled as a "cut & paste" Christian. If you have ever wondered why a prayer hasn't been answered, perhaps you need to forgive a person either past or present that has offended you with the very thing you are asking for. Example: a friend owes you money and you won't let it go after, say, two ot three years. Yet you ask for a special financial blessing from God for a new car or house. You get the idea. I am willing to guess that if you were to forgive that person their debt, you would receive that which you have asked for.
Jesus says we are to forgive a person seven times seventy. That does not mean only 490 times. It means we should continually be willing to forgive one another. God does not hold a grudge. He wants to forgive us and bless us. But if we hold on to grudges, He cannot do what He wants.
It does not matter if you are an atheist, Jew, Muslim, whatever. He sends the rain on the just as well as the unjust. In other words, He will forgive. Period.

If GOD doesnt want to forgive u why would he sent JESUS through that terrible death and pain just so he can forgive u and reconcile u back to him.
But u have a choice u can accept what GOD done through JESUS or u can deny it.
The forgiveness is there and JESUS paid the penalty for everyone sins but the choice is there to whether recieve it or not to recieve it.
John 3:16 says "For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoso ever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life".Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with his blood.
With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.

I am neither an atheist nor a staunch believer. The concept of God and KARMA cropped up in human mind which is doing betterment only till now. Will the God forgive only if you ask or not, OR will he keep a grudge on you or not seem vary frivolous (no offence intended). Assume if there is no governing body in a country it will lead to complete chaos. People have no inhibitions, no fear and do whatever they feel right for them. Thats when the concept of God and Karma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma) come for the rescue. Atleast fear of God if keeps a person in check it is of great help to the society. To exemplify, most Muslims do not consume alcohol, many Hindus are strict vegetarians nad beilieve whole world is one family, many Buddhists believe in non-violence, Christian churches and organizations are involved in social service. So what is the driving force for these? definitely belief in their respective Gods. So lead your life assuming you will be punished if you do BAD ( in general acceptance) deeds and you will be rewarded if done good deeds. God wont forgive you and take your sins on his head if you make mistake and then go and confess to him. So do good, be good.

Because forgiving everyone regardless of how they felt or what they did to make up for it wouldnt be fair. Could you imagine how our justice system worked in the way you described? There would be no limit to the crimes that were committed!
Lets say for a moment you were a prosecutor, and you were given 2 cases and told to prosecute one to the fullest extent of the law with no plea bargains and the other to let go scott-free. Who would you most likely convict? A thief that was caught, since then made restitution, and done some community service? Or a thief that was caught, denies that he did it, refuses to make restitution, doesnt cooperate with police, and causes almost as much trouble as he did during the crime?
God is willing to forgive our sins if we truly turn to him, are able to forgive others, show mercy to others, and accept Jesus. But God cannot be just if he doesnt punish sin. He also couldnt be loving if he didnt offer a way out of it by sending Jesus.

You forget that God is a just judge. If someone harms you terribly, breaking the law, you might find it in your heart to forgive the person, but the law must proceed. The person must be incarcerated and do his time. Justice and mercy are two different things.
The miracle is that God will indeed forgive those who seek His forgiveness. Why is it a miracle? Because our crimes have been so grievous. We have broken every law in His book. We have slighted Him every day of our lives. We have made ourselves king of our lives when He is our Creator and worthy of leading us.
When we ask for forgiveness, we are not playing word games. We are simply acknowledging the truth -- that we have sinned against God and it is our responsibility to come to Him in repentance. If pride holds us back from seeking forgiveness, then we still have no seen how sinful we are, nor do we see the eternal consequences of continuing in sin.
The Bible is clear that I am to forgive when someone asks for forgiveness. The Bible is also clear that I should have a heart of mercy so that I am already sympathetic to the person who has harmed me. But it is only when that person asks me for forgiveness that healing for that person can begin. My silent mercy is nothing to the offender. But when the offender asks me to forgive, then I verbally give it, the offender is relieved, and the forgiveness is appreciated.
Forgiveness is not appreciated if it is not asked for. Tell someone they are forgiven of their sins before they are convicted of sin and you'll only find him scratching his head. If a person cuts me off in traffic without knowing how close came to a collision, then I meet him later and tell him, "I forgive you," the person will be confused.
For this reason I don't tell a person about forgiveness until the person has been convicted of sin through the Gospel.

God does not bear a grudge. You only need forgiveness if you comit an atrocity like when you hurt someone. If you do then really you need the forgiveness of your victim not God.

Gods word is a set of instructions based on His Laws, just as we have earthy laws. The first 5 books of the bible are specific about his laws. Read and re-read the book of John, were you will find your answers. All four books of the gospel will help you find them. Read John 14:6 this is the key and his law says and follow his instructions in the book of Matthew. His instructions are set forth to bring peace among people and if we read we will find it. Read also Matt 7:9

Atheist commit the most high sin the one that can not be forgiven. They deny that his son Jesus died on the cross for their sins. Yes, you must ask him to forgive before he will forgive. I will not forgive unless someone is truly sorry and I know they are sincere and will never do whatever again. That is the same reason you must ask God to forgive you, otherwise why would he? I think it is pretty self explanatory.
