I believe the Ten Commandments were for the Jews. Jesus started a new commandment, "That you love one another as I have loved you". I am a Christian, and I try very hard to follow Jesus' One Commandment.

We follow Christ and if Christ followed the ten commandments so should we. Seems to be argument and i don't like to argue. I know we are to love God with all our heart ,mind & soul & our neighbour as ourselves. If we do , that will be the same as what is in the ten commandments. Some one said we are above the law because we are under grace. That is a distortion of the true meaning. That is a Pauline doctrine saved by grace it is the gift of God and so if your a thief it is ok to continue a thief. I don't think so.Instead of a cheap and easy way out why did Christ have so much to say,so why didn't he just die on the cross and get it done once and for all.Why did he teach the sermon on the mount if all we do is believe and whoopee were saved.? Such religion is cheap and easy. I call it the Coca Cola religion ,believe as we tell you to believe or go to hell.

The ten commandments are not about custom, ritual, etc. like many of the other Jewish laws. They are the minimal, basic laws that any human being should follow to live in harmony with God and with their fellow man. They pretty much cover the ground rules for human interaction. They are all no-nonsense, straightforward, reasonable, obvious guidelines for a believer's behavior. And they're pretty much covered by the First and Second Great Commandments given by Jesus: "Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. On this hang all the law and prophets."
Many of the other laws, such as ones governing ritual and festivals, etc. were specific to the Jewish people because it set them apart as Israel. As the Jews. Those were the kinds of laws abolished in Christ, for the sake of Gentile believers who, for example, did not need to get circumcised as a sign of their faith, because they were not Jewish by nationality.

Hello there fellow Christian.
Have you read the story of Ruth? The woman who never left her mother-in-law (Naomi) even after her husband died? If not, read it in the Bible. If yes, then that's good.
The story of Ruth has one main idea and that's "Salvation is not only for the Jews but also for foreigners". Ruth was a foreigner, Naomi was a Jew. Naomi came back home with Ruth and Ruth began to worship YHWH. She was saved. Jews before thought that they are the only ones who won't get sizzled in Hell but Ruth proved them wrong.
Although we may have come from ancestors who were not Hebrews, or those whom God shown his great power during ancient times, we are his people and we must follow his laws. Jesus revised the 10 commandments into 2 laws.
And it's all about love. Love is our key to eternal happiness and life in heaven, and love will make our lives fulfilling here on earth.
God bless!

Christians are not under obligation to keep any of the laws of the Old Testament, including the ten commandments.
We are called to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to walk in love - Love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and our neighbor as ourself.
Of course, if you do that, I think you will be keeping the ten commandments without even trying!

Excellent question. According to Judaism, non-Jews are not bound by the Ten Commandments, but by the Seven Laws of Noah. It is the Catholic Church, not the Bible, that identifies the Ten Commandments as binding on Christians. By considering themselves bound the Ten Commandments, Protestants are following Catholic oral Tradition!

Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to condemn it. The law is still in place, but Jesus' blood allows us to keep it.
God knew that we couldn't keep the commandments, even for 5 minutes, but the law shows us our sin and our need for a Savior. The law is still in place and it applies to all of us.
The Jews are still God's chosen people and as Christians we are grafted into the tree. Jesus is a Jew. Revelation says that all of us who are saved will live in the New Jerusalem.
What is "clear" is that you are not born again and the Holy Spirit does not live in you. But, He can if you will turn your life over to Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to explain it to you and show you.... He will.

Clearly you haven't actually read what the Ten Commandments actually say, or you wouldn't be asking this.
1) Jesus reiterated all of them Himself except the commandment about keeping the Sabbath.
2) God is unchanging -- the conduct He wanted from His people then, is the conduct He wants for us now.
3) Besides, if Jesus kept them himself, they're good enough for me...

The root word in Christian is Christ, and Christ is Jesus and since He is a Jew and the fulfillment of the law and we are followers of him then we are following the laws.

We have to follow all of God's moral laws because they are a reflection of his eternal character. We don't have to follow ceremonial laws that were types and shadows pointing to Christ Jesus.
Colossians 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. 16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
