A few weeks ago my brothers friend was driving me home from work and we ended up in an accident, all people involved turned out ok just a few bumps and bruises but heres my question. Dillon(brothers friend) is a proud self professed athiest, before we were hit by the other car he closed his eyes tight and said "Oh please God get me through this." Then we were hit.
If he is athiest then why did he in that moment ask the God he dont believe is real for help?

Regardless if people believe or not,the story is true. I never said we was in a flippin car pileup,we were hit by one car in a traffic light area. I think athiests just cant let themselfs bileve anything, not even the idea of another athiest saying Gods name.

It's what he's been most exposed to, so God has become more of a series of idioms than someone to be worshipped. I'm sure he's said "Oh my God!" in times of surprise or crisis, as well as "God d--- it...." when extremely frustrated.
If people don't want to believe in God, they need to refrain from using God as if He's nothing but a series of words.

He's an agnostic atheist. Just because he doesn't believe in god doesn't mean he denies its existence or can't ask for its help.
That's probably not a true story anyways so it doesn't matter.

great point- Deep within everyone is a void that can only be filled with God. I heard on Oprah once an atheist say- "I wish I believed in God so I would have someone to thank for the good things that happen in my life".

No idea. I've been through death in my family, a murder, cancer, a few car accidents and my house was struck by lightning. I considered calling out to god about as much as I considered asking Santa for a hand.

Some people just do. Most of us, though, wouldn't ask for the skydaddy. I would probably be asking for my mom.
To people who insist there are no atheist in foxholes: http://www.atheistfoxholes.org/
don't undermine some our troops.

Yes, you are right, he is a "dork", and through that one pitiful plea he has surely proven the existence of god.

It's a figure of speech. I'm agnostic, but when I cut my finger with a sharp knife, or stub my toe, I often find myself yelling "Jesus f***ing Christ!".

Because deep inside of every man there is a need for worshiping GOD.
So when people say they don't believe is because they don't want to submit to do what GOD requires.
But when face with death the inner man comes out begging for God help. That is hypocrisy.
