Prices vary...but in my area:
Rabies $19
Da2PP $34
Heartworm Test $35
Heartworm preventative $35 (6 mos)
Neuter: $80
Flea/tick preventitive $60-90 (4-6 mos supply)
He will need a booster of the distemper-parvo (DA2PP) and his rabies will only be good for one year

Some Vets will suggest every shot available and extensive testing and charge an arm and a leg. Some Vets offer insurance packages which you are locked into and these offer varying degrees of care for a monthly amount.
If you shop around, you can find a Vet you like who will suggest at least the basics.
That would mean a heartworm test, fecal test for worms, physical exam. Since there is no history of shots, the dog will need to get a rabies vaccination, a combination shot for a number of dog diseases, it would be good to get a kennel cough (Bordetella) nasal vaccine.
You can expect to pay a couple hundred bucks to get him up to par, including Vet office visit, heartworm, fecal tests and meds. That is reasonable.
Some Vets offices would charge way more than this and do stuff that isn't necessary, some Vets would charge less.
Then you will likely need a city license tag which if the dog is not neutered would involve a yearly fee. In my city it's 25 dollars a year for an intact female or male dog, ten for spayed or neutered.
I'd advise looking into home cooking or raw diet during all this dog food crisis as each day more and more foods are being recalled.

He'll need a rabies vaccine
He'll need the parvo, distemper, combo shot
He'll need to be tested for heartworm and then, if negative, put on a monthly heartworm med
He should be neutered
He should be microchipped
How much it will cost depends on where you live and the vet you go to and if the dog is healthy or needs some medical attention.

Well take him to the vet get the necessary shots first of all and maybe the heart worm treatment to for this time of year. If there's anything else maybe can wait till next time if you can't afford it all at once cause it might get to be quite a bit to pay for at once, but maybe you can work out a payment plan to pay for it. Hope you have fun with your new dog.

If he hasn't had anything, he'll need the whole deal done.. Talk to your vet, and tell him about it.. He'll know what to do.. A good going over, and if he has nothing else going on, you can likely expect to spend at least $150.
