I have and drive a 74 F-250 with a 390 Great engine , MY inner teen ager got to me a few months ago and had a nice rebuild she run fast and Strong. What they say about poor fuel mileage must be true because i have yet to find the leak in the fuel tank and that needle does drop sort of fast but who cares.

This truck has paid for her self many times over and i would have to drive like 2500 mile per month to find the break even point of getting a new truck.

The FE motors are great motors . The early 70's motors in trucks were low compression and low lift cams . A 74 truck would be a good truck to restore and built up the motor. It will pull a house down but you will only get 16-18 max on the gas milage .

I had a f 250 1971 when I was in high school dang about 10 years ago at age 17. I rebuilt the motor and put on headers slightly bigger cam and good intake. I loved that truck it ran strong and beat camaro's and stock mustangs atleast sometimes. 86 MPH in the 1/4 mile but yea 390's are a great motor for towing and racing. dang I miss that truck sooooo freaking bad but I rather have my 2 capri's

The are somewhat good motors, but gas guzzlers, and are referred to as "Boat Anchors" around here. I had one in my 74 years ago, not the best horsepower motors.
