All Navy Training and jobs are accredited for college credit through a document called the smarts transcript. Smarts stands for Sailor Marine ACE Transcript System. Your Smart transcript can be located by giong to the following website https://smart.navy.mil. When you combine the college credits from this document with any of the 90 college level exams that are DOD funded( ie free) with the smarts transcript you can earn a degree without ever stepping foot near a class either on-line or brick and mortar. Go to your local Navy College Office on base and ask your individual counselor which Navy distance learning partner school best meets your individual needs. I would recommend either Coastline, Excelsior, or Thomas Edison which are all Navy approved partners for education.

It is possible. You just have to be dedicated to it. Like everyone else is saying you can take classes after work if your schedule will allow you or you can take online classes. My ex was in the Navy he completed his AA through AMU most of the classes were online, his friend is finishing his BA right now all under the 20 year mark. The benefits of going to AMU is most of their quarters are only 8 wks long verses 12 wk long courses at your local community college.

I do know allot of people that further their educations while on active duty. I know at least 10 that are completing their Master's degree. I think all are doing it on line. Myself, I never found the energy at the end of the day to do more than one course at a time. I do understand where you are coming from on that. It is being done though. It would not take as long as you might think to get a degree on line. Your military training counts significantly towards any degree. You should at least check it out, you may be surprised. Anyway, one course at a time is better than none, right??????

I served 4 years in the Navy and went to college on the GI bill after my service term.
It was very helpful to me.

Being in the military is not an impediment to education. You can still attend college after your duty hours as long as you are permitted by your superior.
