Vietnam was my war. I grew up watching it on TV and joined the Air Force, one (1) month before the fall of Siagon. I have a son, who could go to Iraq, if the draft was reinstated.

The draft will not be be coming back. In fact, Congress could expand the military now if they wanted to simply by changing their mandates for troop levels. We are not short of volunteers. Congress has shrunk our military for the last 30 years. I wish they would increase it.

Vietnam was a war that was lost on the political battlefield in the United States. Our military was far superior and we would of never lost it on the real battlefield.

Iraq, and the larger war on terror, is much different than Vietnam in the tactics and scope of the enemy. The only thing that is similar is the political battles back in the U.S.

If we were to stand together there is nothing we can't achieve.

If we had the kind of ridiculous political battles back in the 1930's & 40's that we have today we would probably all be part of the German Empire right now.

Keep everything in perspective and learn from history.

Vietnam...so many lost and for what..in the end we didnt accomplish anything....Iraq...more knowledge, not as many lives lost ...but are we going to accomplish anything if we pull out too fast? My other half is in Iraq right at this moment, and blah blah blah on the president and all the other turncoats..we went to accomplish something stop sugarcoating it just say we are in it for the long haul..we have to do this..because we cant let it go back to worse than it was...if there is a draft so be it, its the price for what we all have...Freedom...

Any war that you have to fight is "worse". I was a Marine Grunt in Vietnam in 67-68 and was one of the lucky ones that stood at KheSanh for 77 days while the enemy surrounded us and hit us with mortars, rockets and artillery daily. Has it effected me, your damned right it has and I'm sure that the Troops in Iraq are being effected by the war that they're fighting also. Sure there were alot of KIA's in the Nam but even one is too many. I feel for these Troops of today having to go back two and three times and do it for a president and vice president that shirked their duty when it was their turn to fight for our Nation. In case anyone asks you, yes war is hell and combat's a MF'r!!!!

VIETNAM they would dig holes and put wooden sticks down there. on the end of the stick the would put cow **** so when the military steeped in they would go to pull their foot out and get stabbed by the sticks. they got infected ad some of the feet wee cut off because of the infection. but in Iraq the kids are told to ask for candy in tell they can get near the solders to pull the pins on their grenades.

Neither. They are both the product of the US misinterpreting the basic motivations & mindset of the East. It is indeed the root cause of these and any other incursion by a Western culture into this area of the world. We think everyone gets up in the morning for the same reasons we do, (or think they should).

48,000 died in Vietnam.
3,300 have died in Iraq.

Ask a Vietnam Vet about it and they will tell you first about the VC.

Ask a Iraq Vet and he will tell you first about the weather.

Vietnam was far far worse.
