Is there a difference between 合う and 会う?

Both read as あう and mean "to meet." Is there any difference in connotation?

Good question! Japanese kids confuse them a lot.
合う=fit, match, agree with, suit, go well with,

会う=meet, see

basically the difference is 会う is for human and 合う is for other things.

逢う=come across. this one has more beautiful meaning so it used for many songs. ;watashiwa kareni meguriatta(past of meguri au)=I finally met him. it includes meaning of "destiny" in good meaning.
遭う=meet with, encounter. it has bad meaning like an accident, incident, disaster.
遇う=meet(by chance). it doesn't have to be bad meaning
