I have a problem with the grail and the last supper because if the last supper happened as the bible states, they didn't know at that time it was the last supper, so why would they have the need to save the dishes Jesus ate off of? I would think by the time they realized it was significant, they had gone and cleaned up the table and dishes. Then, no one knew what cup was Jesus'.

I don't think that the Grail( the Cup of Jesus at the Last Supper, the First Eucharist) survived down to the AD12th cent. There is no real evidence even with the various claimants to being the Chalice that show up from England to Syria.
The Grail for the Cathars may have been the way of life of the Perfecti or their teachings or even their sacrament of the Consolamentum. As a Catholic Christian ,I think the Grail is every chalice,no matter how humble, that is used in a celebration of the Eucharist. Another view of the Grail may be that the Grail is the quest for truth, unity with God and a life of graced singleness of mind and purity of life, like Sir Gallahad's quest in the Arthurian Legends.
