what year is the motor and what make. The wrong weight motor oil can cause that as well.

what size engine chevy,ford what are they hydraulic or roller, how many miles since rebuild how high is oil pressure psi. i would get a can of sea foam at local parts store put in oil it will clean engine run for at least 100 to 150 miles the lifters can also be defectuve if this does not help replaCE lifters are the lifters getting plenty of oil if u replace them, inspect closely for unusual wear on bottom and sides of lifters . change oil and filter use factory filter good luck hope this helps

I have had this happen to me before. If a motor is rebuilt and not washed real good, this can happen. All it takes is small metal dedris to get in the lifter holes and casue this. I have had this happen to me before. It is a pain, but you can try this and it has worked before, add 1 qt of transmission fluid in the motor and run it a few days, if it goes away then just change the oil and you are good to go, but if it doesn't then you will need to replace them.

same wit my 351 (aussie xy) get an old rocker cover, cut a few small holes and replace the affected lifter side's cover.
get a stethoscope cut the end off, use it to check each lifter.
once found check pushrod tightness, lifter functioning check lifter bolt tension

hydraulic lifters with tapets a pluged oil line will make those tapets cling and rattle
marvel mystery oil for a few days
