Jackson Pollock was one of the first. Unfortunately, he used latex house paint and his art is all falling apart now.
Check the Museum of Modern Art website - http://www.moma.org - a large number of modern abstract artists there used acrylics.

I can honestly say: All of them. Though the top layer is oil in many cases, the ground layer is acrylic.
Just Acrylic....er.... Well David Hockney is pretty famous for using just acrilic.
