I think that Jesus was making an incisive comment that many people wouldn't think about when they went about their daily lives. My Pastor talks about this passage and describes how people will call a Christian crazy for donating money to keep a church running and then the same people will go and spend a couple of thousand dollars on season tickets for a sports team that they know is going to lose. The Christian invests the resources God has entrusted to him or her in a venture that is guaranteed to succeed in the end and reaps eternal rewards. Worldly people spend their money on things that are fading away and provide only momentary enjoyment.
