Obiedience school will help but if you don't want to do that here is some help.
SIT: It's the basic trick that all dogs should know. Get out your dog's favorite treat and use a hand sign for him to sit. Of course he won't sit at first but if you keep pushing his bottom down into sit position and reward him with a treat eventually he will get it.
From there you will want to teach him to stay, come, shake, down, and maybe even roll over. For all of these (except stay) simply correct their behavior and reward them with a treat until they figure out to do it themselves.
Good luck!

I have a lab mix, and the great thing about Labs is that they are pleasers, so training with some tancity of your own, will be easy and long lasting. I do agree with the basic 101 Obedience training, before any real "tricks". It's not that you can't just jump in there with tricks, but the obedienc training with a qualified instructor will teach you how to be in tune with your dog, and your dog to gain trust in you. If you want to have a head start in the class that you go to, start with a sit-stay. If your dog is treat oriented, this will be easy. Put your dog in a sit, by hold a treat above his head while pushing his bottom to the ground and say "sit". Once he sits give the treat...repeat. Once he does the sit on his own, you'll want him to do a stay. Make him sit, then say stay. While"hiding" a treat in your hand (don't worry he knows you have one) step back a big step backwards. If he doesn't move, then step back to him, praise and treat. repeat. Then work to two steps back, then three, etc. Always return to him before giving the treat. Hope this is a start for you and your pal, Good luck!

The best answer here and someone else mentioned it but I want to reinforce it and that is teach it obedience. This requires that you enroll in a good obedience class and work at it. Obedience classes are more for the dog owner than the dog. They teach you about dog behavior and how to teach a dog. After the dog is reliable, repeat reliable in the basic commands then go for the tricks. Obedience in a dog makes for a much more enjoyable pet and a SAFER one. I can offer many incidences with my dogs over they years where being reliable with commands SAVED its life. Which would you rather have first? A dog that can shake a hand on command or one that doesn't pull on the leash, bark uncontrollable at every cat, dog, or squirrel, stops at every street corner and not require you to stop every time it wants to mark?

Shake is always a crowd pleaser, and one of the easier ones.
Most dogs (especially the bigger ones, and labs) will automatically put their paw up if you hold your hand out infront of them. Do that and say shake, then praise if they put their paw in your hand.
If they don't automatically do it, stick out your hand, say shake, and then pick up their paw and praise.
