YES, look for a program called WIA ( workforce investment act) in you're state. WIA pays for all tuition, books, uniforms, supplies and even gives you gas money. I got it for my LPN and will get it again when I start my RN. It's a federal program and is offered in every state. All you have to do is take 2 tests, a TABE and a SAGE. The tabe is an academic test and you qualify if you score 11th grade knowledge. The sage is a dexterity test, and doesn't really matter for nursing occupations. You don't have to be financially challenged or anything like that. You just have to work in a facility of the field you are going to be going to school for. Even if it's just a housekeeper. You have to check in twice a month, all I do is call. You have to keep an attendance sheet and turn it in every month. That's when you get you're gas cards. You don't owe them anything. It's an excellent program! Really, look into it! Just google WIA + your state. The program doesn't cover pre-reqs though. Just the nursing program part. WIA will pay for a ton of other programs too. Basically, if it's in demand they will cover it. Check it out. Good luck!!!

Of course! There are pleanty of scholarships and grants out there for nursing students because of the nursing shortage. There is even a student loan forgiveness program if you agree to work in a critical shortage area of nursing for a period of time. However, some of the scholarship deadlines might have happened if you are planning on attending durign the fall 2007 semester or quarter. I will list several free resources to locate money to attend college.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state scholarships & grants.

Fourth, a campus work study job can help with money needed during the school year. The program is funded by the federal government. It will be a job on campus and most times can work to your availability schedule. There should be a box on the FAFSA form for it.

Fifth, fill out the FAFSA form after January 1 of your senior year of high school. It will qualify her for need based financial aid from the federal government and the school itself. It will come in the form of scholarships, Pell Grant, student loans, and the work study program.

Sixth, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for nursing scholarships and grants in your state.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

Here's a website that lists and provides links to info about nursing scholarships: http://www.scholarships-ar-us.org/nursing.htm

You should also check some of the online scholarship databases, such as schoolsoup.com, and search for nursing scholarships there. Also, check with nurses' associations in your area to see whether they sponsor scholarships locally. Good luck!
