That's wonderful. I have always wondered though, why the ones who come on here have so much hate for some thing that doesn't exist in their opinion? Is it harassment from pushy people or is it a reminder of a bad memory? I was just wondering.

They go on the evidence available at the time, a sensible reasonable thing to do don't you think? The sensible and reasonable thing to do in reference to god is not believe as there is no evidence whatsoever of his presence. It is much more likely that he not exist than exist. and as for people going based on feelings! ha ha Carry on with your delusion, you're too scared not too.

I wouldn't say more faith. However, unlike many of my fellow atheists who have answered, I am educated enough to know that strong atheism is a religion, since it based on faith. Anyone who claims that there absolutely is or that there absolutely is not a god should demand a refund for the lack of education they received. Religion is ultimately based on belief. And a belief or set of beliefs require faith. Strong atheists believe there is no god. This is not a lack of belief, which is more in tune with weak atheism and agnosticism. It is a belief, period.

As for your claim that it takes more faith, I highly disagree. When I can turn the cover of a religious text and see where it was printed, I cannot consider it truly holy. I ask this simple question to myself: if any god existed, what need would he, she, or it have of a printing press? To believe in such an obvious man-made work takes a great deal of faith, not the other way around. Of course, that's just my opinion.

You've got a point. It's really what you believe in.

But I was never an Atheist, so I really don't know. I can't really judge by the fact that I believe in God's faith and that all religions base their beliefs on good and evil/ill luck. That's all it really is...Good and bad.

If you go on the path of believing what is right for you, then that's good common sense. But also note that, whatever religion or belief you have, try not to downgrade the faith of other religions. That's showing discrimination. I'll accept your choice if you let me accept mine.

*Sigh* I am really surprised at the people who don't even know the definition their own religion gives the word "Faith".

These types of tactics really don't work. You can't suddenly change the definition of words to try to fit someone else's ideas.

And I'm kind of surprised that anyone would admit that they had to read a book that told them God was real before they would believe in God. Is that what you base your faith on?

Christians believe in god just because... for them it feels right. they need not explain themselves, they just do. I have many devout Christians as friends, and they know they cannot convert me by spouting that "i am going to hell" or "Jesus is the Saviour". They know i will convert if i ever feel like converting. I have yet to feel a call to God like they did.

As an Atheist, i just haven't had any life-affirming reason to believe in God, Buddha, Genghis, the Goddess, etc... I am happy as I am: I have a loving family, great friends (of various religions), a warm roof over my head, 3 good meals per day. i feel content and truly happy. If one day i wake up with an epiphany or i reach a "truth" then i will convert. To me, "god" is a figurehead for a system of beliefs and ethics. some of which i agree with and others not so much. i just don't see why i have to put all my faith in something i, personally, cannot see or feel.

This is very true. Though you will never get an atheist to admit it.

Just look at how they embrace evolution complete with the big bang. Most people are lead to believe that there is true evidence for these theories. At best they are in reality well thought out conjecture.

Yet atheists will whole-heartedly support them without a second thought. Even though the possibility of such a universe being created through such means is slimer then my husband AND the next person I met on the street having the same DNA as me. That is how intricate, complex and organized life is here on earth.

But most Athesits will never admit that their own little theories are taken on as much faith as a Christian takes God.

Actually, it is more based on what the evidence says.

And I wouldn't say they have more faith. I'd say they have more mental strength. It doesn't hurt them mentally to know that they are essentially alone in the world, and will be entirely done when they die. Christians use God as support because they are not otherwise strong enough to survive on their own.

Faith means having a belief. Can one be faithful without a belief, because you don't believe, what are you faithful to?

Do think those of us who do have a belief that this is not based on what we feel? Do I not feel God's love? Has he not answered my prayer?

Just answered my own question, I don't need faith, I HAVE KNOWLEDGE!

Atheists believe the world came about by chance. That alone would take incredible faith. Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead. I believe in God and my life should reflect that.

as someone who firmly believes that the existence of a God is unknowable, I beg to differ. They are convinced that there is no God. They base that on a lack of evidence, not on faith.

Janie, evil? You are so judgmental that you would brand someone as evil for not believing what you believe? What if they volunteer 7 days a week feeding the homeless and donating blood and giving medical care to the poor... they're evil if they don't believe in God? Gimme a break!!!!!

Edit: and Hot Cocoa... they don't hate God because, as you have pointed out, they don't believe God exists. They get really angry at religious legislation, though.
