My mother always teases me about my weight and calls me fat and says I need to lose weight and it really depresses me. I sometimes cry about it. I am in competitive track and my mom says that I will never make it to the state level this fat. I have tried starving myself but I stopped that because I passed out during hurdle practice.

I hate when mothers do that. I think it is so cruel, and NO you are not fat, at 5'10 you are not fat at all. Tell your mother to stop saying that to you because it is something that is going to mess with your self esteem for life! My mother used to do that to me (I am not, nor never have been fat) and I remember that more than anything else from my childhood.

No. With the information you gave, you have a BMI of 23.4, which is the 74th percentile. That means that you are just right. And as for your mom calling you fat, that is technically child abuse. It is not right or ok for her to be saying that, especially seeing as it really does cause you harm. I have been there myself. I was in psychiatric hospitals for a month when I was 17 due to eating disorders. I have been there, I understand. You are at a fine weight, and muscle weighs more than fat. Don't let what she says get you down. Just keep in mind that you are better than she thinks. PS - I am now an EMT and in nursing school. I made it through, so can you.

I'm sorry but that's messed up about your mom calling you fat. If you are taller you need more weight on you. 165 for 5'10 is perfect. Don't think other ways. Even your own doctors will tell you that. I'm 5'5 and my doctors tell me to be 145 to 150. Even at that height.

First off your mom teases you because shes jealous and/or a low life immature ****. Secondly no, youre not.. I dont watch the show but I ran into something online that said Tyra is 5'11 and her weight goes between 155 and 161 or something like that. Fat is when you breathe hard when you walk from one end of the house to the next. Watch TLC's shows about obeese people and youll see what fat is! They have to use whale lifts on these people! Tear walls out of their homes to get them to the hospital! Tell your mom to grow up...even when your child is grown you dont talk to them like that...You are suppose to help them.

Also remember, its not the weight, its what size you are...because 200 lbs of muscle looks differrent from 200 lbs of pure lard. K?

well if you're in track that means you are mostly muscle, which is a lot heavier than fat. and SCREW YOUR MOM. just ignore her. i know it's not that easy, but you definitely shouldn't be listening to her. she shouldn't be saying things like that to you...especially if she actually does want you to lose any weight.

now if you really did want to find out if you're overweight, since nobody here can calculte your body fat or w/e, you should go and possibly make an appt. with a health physician and he/she could tell you.

Remember...muscle is denser than fat. If you are exercising, you are building muscle mass...especially if you are going all-out and doing weights.

As for your mother calling you fat...that is classified as emotional/metal abuse, although if that is as far as she goes, no court would ever convict her. HOWEVER, you can, next time she calls you fat, stop whatever it is you are doing, and ask her why she is trying to destroy your self image and make you so self concious?

In all likelihood, she does not even realise what she is doing, since most parents don't.

Finally...starving yourself...DO NOT DO THIS!!!
You will loose muscle mass before loosing fat tissue.

According to the cdc's bmi calculator you are healthy. You sound like you are healthy to me, if your mom treats you like that you should tell someone, another adult. It is a form of abuse.

Here's the direct link for your age, height and weight:

No you are not fat!
Do not go and use that Body Mass Indicator (BMI calculator), it is way off.
I'm 6'3" and weigh 200lbs. I am athletic, toned, and fit and the BMI index tells me I'm overweight!
