He is not human so what is he resting? And surely he knew he had finished his work so is permanently resting now anyway. Yet another example of the 'man made' bible. Any chance the christians can respond with bible verses that no one can decipher properly or perhaps the old favourite vague answers that could mean anything about anything?

"If it's a made up story then any answer should be acceptable. Why are you worried about the reasons for G-d doing anything if you feel it is a fairy tale?"
How can I be worried about something I do not believe exists doing something that therefore wasn't done?
I am however worried for my fellow human beings. Beautiful, intelligent logical human minds wasted on a doctrine of non thinking and simply accepting. Shame.

Isn't it FUN castng the net and catching all these Christians?
MM, the better the question you submit the less responses you get, funny that! You know you've really shut them all up when you get 2 or 3 responses. When you get loads you've really failed as you've given them an opportunity to quote that bible AGAIN. A lack of disrespect for their own minds as stated above..

It just means he has not created anything new. We are still in the seventh day. The bible never says the seventh day ended. Adam and Eve were created at the end of the sixth day in 4027 BCE. So that was 6035 years ago. This is how long the seventh day has lasted. The previous six were just as long if not longer. At the end of this seventh day, God will destroy the wicked off the earth and restore it to the paradise he intended for it to be in the first place. Then there will be no more sickness, pain or death. God will never again allow mankind to rule without him. He will never allow the earth to be ruined again.
Do you really believe this! What is he waiting for?ha ha, if he intended it to be paradise why create creatures that have the capacity to do bad things then give them free will? What would the point in that be!

The "Seventh Day" is a metaphor for the "day that God rested." You are right, God isn't a man, so God doesn't need the rest.
The "Seventh Day," or "Sabbath" as it's sometimes called is the day, or "time" that God takes a break. You don't really want to be around when that happens, but you don't really want to miss it either. The word "Sabbath" ties into the prophecy of the Bible, which shows it's true meaning to be a warning to humanity about what happens when God takes a break.
If that isn't clear enough, think about what would happen if you took a break while your 18 month old child was taking a bath? Let's hope your child already knows how to swim, and doesn't bump its head.
I can't wait to see what the holi-rollers who "own God" are going to answer. None of them have a clue, and it's no wonder that you are disgusted by them.
Regards,
Chris

Almost everything in the Old Testament was a foreshadow of the New Testament, through Pictures and Types.
The Rest of God was no different. As Jesus says; The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
He was putting into play a day of Rest from our labor. A day (of which was under the dispensation of law) whereby, it was given as one of the commandments. A day that was set aside, where all eyes would be focused on the Almighty.
However, the Sabbath of Rest is a Foreshadow of the Believers / Christians Sabbath of Rest, when this life is over.
Wherefore, we to cease from our labor.

God needed to take a rest after talking his way thru creation. Talking does take a certain amount of energy- 25% in humans and we have the tools to do the job. For a being without lungs, a tongue, larynx and a mouth, this could become rather tiring after 6 days.

There are several reasons
First, the work of creation was finished
(the work of redemption was about to start)
Second, as an example to start a covenant cycle of a rest every 7 days. There is actually no reason cultures should have weeks as opposed to sets of other numbers of days... but the 7 day week has been around since the creation and looks like its' a stayin

Humans are not the only creatures on earth to rest. Lots of animals rest.
His work wasn't yet completed it had only just begun, he had all the strife and mayhem to deal with, floods, plagues, Moses, Jesus etc.
May he who takes His teaching to heart, be the one with redemption in his eyes, and he who doubts His word, be the one with fear in the belly of the beast. Blessed are the meek, weak and those with beaks, as all of His creatures are equally blessed, apart from those within the pool of liver at the side of the mersey, who are simply tango whiskey alpha tangos.
