Not true at all.
As mentioned before, alcohol cannot be distilled higher than 96%...it's just one of those facts of the natural world. Furthermore, moonshiners don't usually use stills that achieve 96%
Remember, just because it tastes nasty, doesn't mean it's higher in alcohol. Just because it burns, doesn't mean it's purer.

I think it is, because Everclear is 90% alcohol, and Moonshine is meant to be 100% alcohol - properly made moonshine should be stronger than everclear.

ixat02 is right. Chemically, you cannot derive
100 % alcohol. My guess is that moonshine
could be anywhere from 50% up to 90%.
Moonshine is special only because it is made
from corn, and it is clear as opposed to whiskey.
Distilled bourbon contains other than corn,
and moonshine is not put in oak and has
no tannins. Moonshine is "micro-distilled",
made in only small batches. Finally,
assuming one does not know, moonshine
makers in the United States come under
seige from from tax revenue officials.
Shine traditionally has been
sold outside of a regulated market.

by distilling it is impossible to get a higher alcohol content than 96%. 100% alcohol left in the open air will extract water from the air to return to 96%. in technical terms it is called that alcohol/water has a boiling point azeotrope.

if it is 100% alcohol then it would be 200 proof...
Everclear is about 190 proof, so it is 95% alcohol...

You can't distill past 95% alcohol. To go further, you need specific laboratory equipment, something that distillers generally don't have.
