Because most of them just can't understand a live-and-let-live attitude.
I just ran into this particular problem in responding to another question here on Y!A. The person stated that Pagans hate Christians, and I pointed out that no, really, most of us don't. Most of us don't care WHAT other people worship, as long as we're left in peace to follow our own faith. (Individual Christians can certainly get under our skin, but that's a different matter.)

Because of Matthew 12:30 and Luke 11:23...
They conveniently forget that there are 2 other verses which state "Those who are not against us are for us." Which can be found in - Mark 9:40 and Luke 9:50. I think they ignore these because it doesn't fit into their idea of their religion that if one doesn't believe, then they must be going to hell to be tormented forever.

I don't know that "most" Christians think that way but I would imagine that if some of them do then it has to do with what Jesus said.
Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

I consider my self as being a christian and it dose not matter to me if you with me or not the person to be with is GOD.
