You need to be 18 to consent for any surgery.

Tubal ligation is a tricky one, because women DO change their minds, and undoing a TL is much more difficult than doing it.

I think every situation is different, and you need to discuss YOUR situation with your gynecologist.

For example, if you have a genetic disease that you don't want to pass on to children, most gyn's would sterilize you at a younger age than someone who "just doesn't want children."

Although I am not familiar with many of the different state's laws, I am certain that the legal age for such a procedure is 18. However, I do know that in some state's(Like Oregon and Indiana) you have to have given birth to or fathered(in a mans case that is) at least two children BEFORE a doctor would consent to such a procedure. Check with your local women's health center first to make sure of all the little hidden laws and what not.

age is not the only factor...my neighbor won't do one less than 27 or 28 yrs old
the doctor will discuss about kids (you have them or not and are you going to want them later on).....

usually after 25 or 2 child births at least that is what my doctor said his clinic does

when your sure your done having children.i would say late 30's to early 40's.much easier for the man to get a vasectomy sp? though.just my opinion!

varies each state some 21 and 2 kids already ask your ob/gyn
