why did they do it?

I had a slightly younger cousin that I thought was great--good looking, funny, caring, all the things you like in a person. He went to a remote area one day and left the car running--died by carbon monoxide poisoning. He'd hid from his family for years that he was gay. When he found out that he was HIV+ he didn't know how to tell them.

Recently another male friend committed suicide. There was a note but it left more unanswered questions than answers. His choice was hanging. A reason still isn't clear except it may have had to do with money.

I've thought about suicide--even tried it a couple times. After talking to other people who survived attempts, the consensus was the prospect of dying was easier to face than the problems at hand. It was a sense of relief that a decision had been made and that there would no longer be pain. There was a sense of peace with themselves.

The other thing in common was that not one person close to us (family/friends/clergy/doctors) realized the extent of what we were feeling. When we would try to talk about it some would listen for a few minutes, become uncomfortable and say things like, you'll get over it, snap out of it, wait and see how you feel in the morning, etc. Not one person realized the extent of the pain we were experiencing at that moment. If they couldn't say I love you and I want to get you help, they should have called a hotline or a doctor at the very least.

A suicide's mantra should be: Mourn me now while I'm suffering, not when I'm at peace with myself.

Yes at the time I didn't know the reasons. Now I know there is an insult from friends and family that leads to death in many cases.

My cousin killed herself August 13th, 2001. She was distraught over her relationship with a man.

I don't think she understood that suicide was going to be a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I miss her everyday....

Yeah I do.
All the ones I know suffered from psychiatric disorders...but I guess anyone must be at least clinically depressed to do so.
It's a permanant solution to a temporary problem.

yes my brother did. he was bi polar and stopped taking his medications. he got extremely depressed, got readmitted to a hospital , and 3 days later, after much support, help from his family, he still did it. i do not blame him, i blame his illness. he did it because he was sick.
